If it seems difficult to have a shower, do you have time to have a luncheon when you are home for the wedding?

If they want to throw you a shower, let them.  You can have a ladies luncheon instead since it’s just the 6 of you and they can still get you gifts and play games.

I was in a similar spot where I was not comfortable with being the center of attention and getting gifts, but my mom and bridesmaids were really excited to do a shower.  We compromised and had an “un-shower” – no gifts, no games, no ribbon hat – we had lunch, drank margaritas, and did mani-pedis. It was WONDERFUL.  And without the expectation of gifts and big to-do, its not a big deal if people can’t make it, so you won’t worry about that as much either.
