I am just recently engaged and am having a tough time deciding where to have my wedding. I am from Kansas, met my fiance there, my whole family is there, his whole family is there, and all of our friends. We JUST moved to NY and have been here a month, I don’t have a job yet, he does (we moved for his work), so needless to say I don’t know anyone here yet. Our wedding date is so that we won’t even have been here a whole year by the time we are married. Should I start planning it here to make it easier for us, or plan it there where everyone who will be a part of/invited to our wedding live? I’m afraid if I have it here, not many people will come since it will be so expensive for travel, hotel, food, etc. What do you all think??

I voted Kansas just because it will probably be way less expensive!

More bang for your buck in Kansas! Also, all your loved ones will be able to attend for sure if it’s in Kansas.

@shrubfish09: I think you should have it in Kansas. It will actually probably be easier to plan in Kansas because you have more friends and family there to help you out. Also, it will be way cheaper and you can have more guests! Maybe you could purchase your dress in New York, though. It might be easier to do fittings.

I agree with pps. Kansas will be less expensive, your family can help you plan, but get your dress in NY for fittings etc.

I would do it in Kansas just because I would want everyone to be able to attend. If you’re worried people won’t be able to come, definitely do it in Kansas. Most likely in New York your guest list will be cut substantially because it will now be a destination wedding for everyone else. It is easy enough to talk to vendors through skype or the phone that you should be able to hire them.
