My SO is (finally!!) going to look at stones at the jeweler on Thursday (tomorrow!). He is seeing a retired jeweler that a friend of his used to work for and who has some stones to view and/or can order some more. We have been pretty open about the whole process (I picked out the ring and was there when he bought the setting…over 5 months ago I might add…), because, alas, the “surprise element” is LONG gone (aka, a romantic fairytale proposal, with a ring that SO picked out, occurring early in the relationship when I least expect it) LOL. My SO was out of town last week for work, and I was going to look at the stones with his friend (suggested by her, hesistant at first, but we both agreed). Since the jeweler was busy last week, however, my SO is now back in town and is meeting him tomorrow after work.
My question is, should I still go with my SO? I asked him and he said whatever I would like to do. Some pros and cons of this are:
+ I would be able to pick out exactly what I want and see the stones in person, next to my setting (which has a few side diamonds)
+ I may be able to sweet talk him into a slightly bigger stone (?)
+ I can help my clueless Boyfriend or Best Friend make an informed decision, haha
+ I can try on my ring in front of the jeweler and get his opinion on resizing so my ring is 100% ready for me come proposal time (see my previous post http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/i-was-bad-and-now-i-am-slightly-panicking )
– Will there be ANY sort of surprise left over at this point?
– I believe the jeweler is at least 45 minutes away, not including rush hour traffic
Bees, what do you think? What would you do in this situation?
