@Ms. Stallion: How often do you talk about your relationship, marriage, etc?

Maybe you could broach it from that angle rather than the “I know you have a ring, I found the receipt” approach.

How long have you been together? Do your families live near by? Could he be waiting for an opportunity to ask your parent’s blessing?

Since it is the start of a new year, you could have a conversation with him about your relationship in general and what you want in the coming years together.

I say you still have NYE and Vday coming up, two major events. Do you have any vacation coming up?

I also agree, it might be more productive to have a relatinship talk, timelines for marriage, than so much the enggagement.

Goodluck, and I hope it happens soon!

@KatNYC2011: I agree.

And I don’t like just automatically assuming but it is possible this wasn’t THE ring?
i mean it could very well be but 7 months is a LONG time. even I wonder what he is waiting for?

@KatNYC2011:  I agree.. the new year is a good reason to bring up a conversation about your relationship in general.  You don’t have to specifically bring up the ring.  Just discuss the expectations that you each have for your relationship and talk about how far you’ve come and where you plan to go.

Good luck, doll.. and happy new year!

I agree that 7months is  a long time. I dont know any guy that bought a ring 7 months in advance of proposing. Maybe the receipt was not for your ring.

@Ms. Stallion: Maybe he got it and then got it appraised and it wasn’t what he thought he was getting so he took it back. Maybe he just got a lose stone and is having a setting custom made or is waiting on a family setting.

My husband held the ring for 3 months before he proposed. granted it wasn’t 7 months but one of the reason my husband waited so long was that he was trying to think of a good way to propose.  He said he was testing things out and made a few things and he can only do it when i’m not home since we live together.  My husband and I have been together 11 years.  We talked about getting married about 8 years into the relationship and didn’t get married until our 11 year anniversay.  So be patience.  My husband is also a finace guy so I think they tend to like to analyze things longer then most.

My boyfriend has had my ring for over a month now, but he knows that I know he has it.  I just wanted to let you know that your engagement ring is NOT the only one that is NOT burning a hole in his pocket!  I might even have to wait till the summer 🙁
