Looking for a little advice from people re what to do about my boss.
i work part time I’m a coffee shop on my university campus and I do two shifts a week to supplement my student loan. Now, over exam period I have only booked two dates off which is because of some exams being in the afternoon and eating into my shifts. My boss who is usually lovely was a little shirty with me about it, which surprised me and angered one of my co workers. I put it down to stress as the office had been robbed the previous night.
okay, so my boss knows I am in my final year and indeed final week of studies. I have only ever not come in twice for shifts (once was a family death, once was that my nana had had a stroke) and I work my arse off when I’m in there and never ever slack off. i have trust found out that two second year university students have had 3 weeks off without query to prepare for exams. Now I’m annoyed; I rushed my dissertation, my revision and my writing portfolios so that he wouldn’t be short staffed, yet these two other girls are being granted time off without question.
im due to do a shift tomorrow evening but I have an exam on Tuesday morning that I’m severely underprepared for. my coworkers know how stressed i am and have suggested calling in sick (friday nights are always dead in there) or just telling him what’s going on, but either way that I definitely shouldn’t come in for my shift. I hate lying and I’ve never done it before, but I don’t know how understanding he would be if I called in telling the truth. He knows I have long standing dental problems and I considered telling him that i have a wisdom tooth infection (I get them sporadically due to on going orthodontic treatment) and that I can’t come in. Do you think I should tell the truth, lie or just suck it up and go in?
