Hi Bees! So I got my engagement ring from Helzberg and I tried on their sizing rings in the store to figure out what size to get. The 5 was slightly too small, but the 5.5 felt pretty good, so I ordered that. Unfortunately, the store was really hot, so I think my hands were swelled up; I’ve been wearing the 5.5 since February and it feels slightly too loose. If I shake my hand vigorously, it doesn’t come off, but it does flop forward and backward and side to side during the day when I’m doing everyday activities. I’ve been wrapping a piece of tape around the band daily, which gives it some bulk, keeps it from moving, and helps it feel more secure. It’s really annoying to have to do that every day, though.
I really want to size down to a 5.25, but I’m wondering if I should wait until after the summer. I don’t want to damage the ring by sizing up and down over and over, so I want to be absolutely sure before I take it back to the store. Do you think going down a quarter size will keep it from sliding around on my finger, or will it not make that much of a difference? I don’t really want to go all the way down to a 5 — the ring FH proposed with (a family heirloom) is a 5, and it fits but it’s just barely too tight on a normal day and feels uncomfortable if I get hot or eat too much salty food.
Advice?
Thanks!!

Hmmmmm I think I may wait, esp if your hand swells with heat. If it’s still too big in the summer go uo 1/4 size. Is the ring top heavy? What kind of ring is it?

It’s set pretty high, so it is pretty top heavy. This is the ring: http://www.helzberg.com/product/3+stone+diamond+ring+1977697.do?from=Search&cx=0
I’m thinking I should wait also, but I was hoping I could find the perfect size that would fit year-round without having it too loose in the winter or too hot in the summer. I don’t think I’ll be that lucky since I have big knuckles, haha.

OOooooo that is gorgeous!!!!! and definitly looks top heavy! My ring is top heavy as well so it’s a spinner. Some jewelers can size up or down 1/8 of a size…Usually private jewelers.

Thanks!
I didn’t know I can go down 1/8 size… that might be perfect! I’ll check around town and see if any non-chain jewelers have a bigger variety of sizing rings. I had no idea getting the right fit would be such a process! Haha

Wait. When you start wearing a wedding band your Engagement Ring will fit snugger, because it is further up on your finger. You don’t want to have to make it larger to accommodate a wedding band comfortably. spydezra:
