@talkderbytome:

First of all you did great. And she is going to love the fact that you took the time and invested to money to get her this lovely symbol of your love. Since you have the setting she LOVES I would suggest the following:

Go back to jeweler and get your money back from the stone. In its place have them set a equivalent CZ so you can propose with the ring. CZ doesn’t last like diamond but it is designed to look like diamond. This way she can have her ring to show off (no yellow included) but there won’t be an immediate rush to change out the stone. Go back and look at stones with your (hopefully) Fiance and ask to look at only GIA stones that are the color of the halo or higher. Then she can decide for herself what is acceptable. Keep in mind that getting your money back on the current stone won’t mean you can get the same quality GIA stone for that same price. For instance if you are looking at a 1 ct stone expect to pay an additional 3k for a GIA stone with the same specs. Most independent jewelers can set a stone for you in house by the end of day so as soon as you decide on a stone you should be able to get the ring she really deserves on her finger.

Good luck!

@talkderbytome:  I understand all of that, and I get what you’re saying and what I was trying to say what’s that there isn’t really any reason to feel lied to when you in fact weren’t. I’m sorry you didn’t get a GIA certified stone, the ring is gorgeous and I’m sure if you went back and explained your situation they would exchange it. I wouldn’t say all of this if your family/friends hadn’t had such nice things to say about the store.. I’m just assuming they didn’t make all of that up. I could however be wrong, I never claim to be right all the time. Good luck! (Also.. I wouldn’t propose with that ring if you don’t like it/ plan on exchanging it, it’s like giving a gift and then taking it away..)

A GIA H color center definitely won’t look yellow in a halo (i have an H with F halo stones and I never see warmth)…They may try to charge you more for a stone with a GIA cert. but at the end of the day i think your mom is right that it will give you piece of mind.

@talkderbytome:  I hope it all works out, you’ll have to keep us updated. If my husband had put this much thought into my ring I would have just been thrilled he cared soo much. She’s already a very lucky girl. My husband took me to pick out a ring, bought it, then said one morning “will you marry me?” Wa wa.. Lame. I love him dearly but it was incredibly lame. I hope you get the dream ring you want to propose with, good luck!

@talkderbytome:  I’m sure you’re really frustrated and pissed. Go talk to them tomorrow like you said and hopefully they will be honest and work with you. Don’t panic yet. If they refuse to work with you or say you can’t exchange it, etc then you can try talking to people higher up at the company and writing formal complaints etc. Hopefully you will have luck with them tomorrow and it won’t come to that.

I would not take it or propose with it with a diamond in it that you intend to return. This place sounds sketchy.
