LoveMyBrit:  I’m the same as you! I take mine off to sleep, wash dishes, clean. We’re doing reno works to our house, so I take it off for that too – I’d hate to damage it in ANY way, so I make sure to put it in a safe place away from chemicals and tools lol.

MissKota1419:  I take mine off when I’m cooking messy things, in the shower, at night, when applying lotion, gardening, working out, etc. It’s not always appropriate for me to have a large stone around when I’m doing various activities. Keep your ring in a safe place if it’s not on your finger and insure it against loss and theft.

MissKota1419:  Congratulations on your getting engaged and your ring is beautiful!

As far as taking your ring off, it depends on your comfort level, how hard you are on your hands, and type of setting you have.  Classic solitares like yours and bezel settings can take a little more wear and tear than a more delicate pave or halo setting.

I’m a little obsessive about keeping my ring clean and I had previously lost a small diamond in my band, so I take mine off when I do dishes, shower, clean, cook, and sleep.  I keep a ring holder by the kitchen sink and another one on my nightstand, so I always know where it is.

I take mine off as soon as I get home from work and leave it off until I walk out the door the next day. I prefer to do this so it doesn’t get snagged on anything, less chance of it getting smacked into something, and also keeps it cleaner.

I take mine off as soon as I get home.  I only wear it when I’m out and about.

I take mine off when I sleep, shower, work out, do dishes… to name a few.

If I’m just sitting around the house on the weekend, I usually don’t put it on untile we’re going somewhere.

I have a ring holder in the bedroom that I place it on.

MissKota1419:  I take mine off to: Shower, Cook, Clean, Workout/Be Active (like hiking, kayaking, ect), Sleep. Just my preference. When I take it off, it’s always at home, and I put it in it’s box or some ring holder. I never take my ring off while in Public (say like when washing my hands in a public restroom). Do what you feel comfortable with! And beautiful ring btw, it’s stunning!

My ring is very high, so I take it off to sleep because we usually have little ones who end up in bed with us throughout the night and I don’t want to scratch them. But if they’re at grandma’s and it’s just us (which is so rare it’s insane) I don’t take it off. I’d just hate to scratch my littles!!!

I also take it off to do messy things or chemical things *if I’m not wearing gloves* (messy things like mix meatloaf, dough, cookie dough, etc)

My right hand ring (a sapphire) I only wear when going out. My ER is on all the time!

MissKota1419:  I’m just curious, why are you wearing your ring on your right hand?

I leave mine on pretty much 24/7. I’ll take it off to clean usually and I try to remember to take morning if I go in my pool, but that’s about it. I don’t really do yard work or anything like that but I’d take it off for that if I did. There are a few articles floating around about how you should clean it and when your should take It off. It really depends on your ring metal, setting, and your own comfort level. Also make sure you get in insured!

I take mine off when I’m working. I have to. I’m in the trades and I’m friends with an electrician who would wear his wedding ring to work. He’s ring got caught on a nail, his ladder went out from under him and he hanged there for awhile.

His finger beat him to the floor… I’m so paranoid about the same happening to me! I love my ring- but I would like to keep a finger to wear it on!

When going to work I leave it in the box in a dresser draw. As soon as I get home it goes back on!

MissKota1419:  congratulations on your engagement! that is a gorgeous ring! 🙂 i just got engaged last saturday (8/30) and i have been taking my ring off to shower and to work out. one of my girlfriends gave me an adorable little ring holder with our initials, so it goes in there for a few minutes. i sleep in it comfortably and wear it the rest of the day.

BWLE:  In many European countries (as well as others), it’s tradition to wear the engagement/wedding rings on the right hand. And I saw in a different post (cute proposal, MissKota1419!) that she’s from Poland, so that would explain the ring on the right hand 🙂

I virtually never take mine off.  I’d be so afraid I’d lose it!  The only time I’ve taken it off for any real length of time in the 4 months I’ve had it is for a massage.  I have a right hand ring made of the same metal (14K white gold) that I’ve worn nonstop for 10 years, and it still looks great so I’m not too worried.

Oh! And I forgot to mention one more thing.

It’s normally recommended to not wear jewelry if you style your hair with heat and various oils/sprays. Also don’t wear it till you put on perfumes. At best, it can make the most durables stones and metals dull from grime build up. At worst, it can really damage more brittle stones or man made gems.

All coming from a jewelry but. So I’m hyper careful over my jewelry ever since I split a tanzanite stone once.

I guess I take mine off a lot.

I don’t sleep with it on. I don’t shower with it on. I don’t do my hair with it on (I don’t want gel/hairspray gunk on it!). I don’t put makeup on with it on. I don’t put lotion/creams on with it on. I don’t cook/bake anything with my hands with it on.

I usually take it off and put it in the box whenever I get home and put my pjs on for the evening…. and in the morning it’s the last thing I put on before I walk out the door. I guess this might change once we have our own house together though.
