Alright. My wedding is in 3 months and I am TRYING so hard to stay on budget. All of my vendors are small business owners. They own and operate the business as their full time job. I have read several places that you do not need to tip your vendors if they are business owners. However, most of them have assistants who will be helping them, so that’s where it gets fuzzy. Here are the vendors I am worrying about-
- Photographer and Assistant
- DJ and Assistant
- Photobooth Guy and Assistant
- Florist and Assistant
Should I tip these people? I am not trying to be a total cheapo, but if I can save a few hundred on tips, I need to make that decision. I feel like our prices are in the middle range for these services, nothing is an incredible deal.
I figured if we DO end up tipping, it would be around $50-$100 each.
Thanks for your input!!

Always tip. There are no exceptions in my book.

I say tip photographer and 2nd shooter than dj and florirst.
I don’t think you need to tip the photobooth guy unless he is going to be there the whole day monitoring his photobooth.

I do not think you have to tip the owner of any business. That is pretty standard.

I had no idea you had to tip vendors, aren’t they expensive enough as they are lol! Maybe I’m just clueless but I wouldn’t 🙂

I agree with PP, they’re costly already but I know you’re supposed to tip regardless. I wonder how much you tip them normally. My photographer (including second shooter) is $3500 where my DJ is about $1600. How did you all tip?

highschoolhoneys: Im not cheap by any means but idk about the tipping they all are pricey as is it. I will send them a thank you card that will be all.

I’ve heard that since a business owner sets their own prices, you don’t need to tip them.
When there’s an assistant, I’d probably add a small tip, but not 15% (because $15% for a $4000 photographer is way too much additional money). It’d more likely be an extra $100 I’d throw in.

highschoolhoneys: I don’t think you need to tip people who are the owners of their own business as a ‘rule’. We tipped our DJ and that was it.

highschoolhoneys: I would just tip the DJ and photographer 🙂
