I am thinking about using a “caterer” from the local Chinese restaurant that hosted my engagement party. I use the term in quotations because they may not really provide full-service catering.
A few months ago when I was trying to settle the broad plans for my wedding, I talked with the restaurant to see if they could provide catering. My two choices at the time were either use their catering or have my wedding reception at their restaurant. I figured they wouldn’t mind catering if they had the capability, because it gave them more profit since they could still use their entire facilities.
The restaurant told me that they didn’t do catering, but that they could make the food for take-out. I asked them whether they’d deliver for me, since I would be placing an order for 150 people which is a big chunk of cash. Didn’t use those exact words but that’s what I was feeling 🙂
So finally they would deliver. I called this restaurant two more times for details but didn’t end up reserving anything because my parents said they would help me (which is a whole other story – I am planning my wedding from across the country).
Today I called the restaurant again because I was planning to use their delivery service and hire some waitstaff etc at my reception venue. But the restaurant now tells me they have the option of full-service catering. And they made it sound like it wasn’t anything new. But I know for a fact that they told me they did not do any catering at all one month ago. It was very clear in our conversation. I feel like they are misleading me or just telling me what I want to hear. It doesn’t matter now anyways because the day I would want their catering service isn’t available because the restaurant is already booked with a wedding that evening, and they cannot spare their chef to cook for me. I understand that, but if I had known that they had full-service catering (or that I could talk them into it), I would have booked them earlier!
Am I just exasperated or would you be upset too? I feel like someone is lying to me. Now I don’t know if I can trust them. So I am contemplating using an Asian fusion caterer who I know for *certain* is professional. I just don’t know the quality of their food but at least they are upfront. Ah, decisions…
Any thoughts? I would most appreciate it!
