To be honest, I love your engagement ring just the way it is. I don’t think you should change a thing.

I would rather have the sparklier diamond. If your ring spins maybe it needs to be sized down a teensy bit or have sizing balls put in it?

I would change the band, since it’s been bugging you. Personally, I would prefer to wait to upgrade until I could upgrade cut & carat, but that’s just me (since it sounds like your fiance is planning to upgrade in the future :))!

I personally am more attached to my stone than I am the setting .. If it spins that’s because it’s not the right size .. Especially because solitaires are top heavy … Sizing the ring down a quarter  not even a half size should still be comfortable and not to tight .. Or you can put sizing beads to stop the spinning .. It will happen with a thinner band also of not more because it is even more top heavy than it was with the thicker band … But if your fine with one or the other I guess I would choose a more sparkly stone if it put mine to shame but if I were really pleased with my stone I would switch the band … So the question is how much do you love you stone …. And do you dislike your band really because it’s thick or More because it spins because that can be fixed

I think the band you have is lovely and if you’ve seen a more beautiful diamond that you’re both OK with, I’d go with that. You will not look at your current ring the same and I think it’s a better investment financially and emotionally to get an upgraded stone. I thinks you’ll always look at your current stone and wish it were the upgraded one. Nothing wrong with that if youre both in agreement.

The setting that you have is beautiful and compliment your center stone very well.  You can resize it rather than changing a band.

What is your current diamond spec?  What is the new one?  I just wonder what make the new one a lot more sparkle, just a cut or color as well?

Personally I’d change the diamond over the setting, but a PP had a good point about waiting to upgrade until you can upgrade carat and clarity at the same time. Of course that’s assuming you’d one day want to upgrade carat, which you might not. I think your setting is really stunning and I would change the diamond if you are so blown away with the clarity that you really love it.

I would probably say to upgrade the stone since you don’t want a larger one ever. If the spinning band is what bothers you most, it may stop doing that if/when you get your wedding band soldered.

@ekizuna:  If you upgrade the stone, do you think you will still be disappointed with the thickness of the setting?

I would go for the diamond upgrade! I am totally a sucker for brilliant sparkle and fire. 🙂
