I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 13 and I have very bad vision far away (at least I think it’s bad). I was wearing contacts for a few years but then when I got a waitressing job at a place that cooked food out on the floor I noticed that they would get super super dry and would bother me a lot. So I quit wearing them and bought a really unique pair of glasses that I LOVE, and wear all the time.
The trouble is that I recently bought a short little birdcage veil that is TOTALLY me but with my glasses I’m worried it’s going to look stupid. On the other hand though I’m really worried that if I try to wear contacts they are going to end up seriously irritating me for the wedding. I know I could get trial ones or something that won’t dry my eyes out but I’m not sure. Any thoughts?
Here is me with my glasses on:
And me without:

I say use the contacts for the veil but make sure that someone is your glasses person for the day and as soon as you need to, change over the glasses instead. Try going to your optometrist and seeing if they can recommend drops or something for you when wearing the contacts.
That being said, are your glasses more you or the veil? I guess it’s a trade-off.
Also, glasses can make getting good photos harder due to glare and such.
Gah! I’m not sure that I really helped much.
Good luck deciding, you’ll look fabulous either way. 🙂

As someone else with horrible vision without glasses… I say, if you wear your glasses all the time and you love them, wear them! You want to look like “you” on your wedding day, and your glasses are part of that.
I think your glasses are awesome, and will look great with a birdcage veil!
ETA: I really hate the stigma that I – and I know other glasses-wearers – sometimes feel that having glasses automatically makes one less attractive. Don’t know if it’s still common, but there used to be a saying, “Boys don’t make passes at girls who wear glasses.” I feel like swapping glasses for contacts, if that’s not what you regularly wear, buys into that idea… which is one major reason I’ll never wear contacts. (That and the whole sticking-my-finger-in-my-eye thing. *shudders*) A woman can be beautiful with glasses just as easily as she can without!

@Everdeen: True, I could always change into them later after pictures and such if my contacts start to bother me too much.

If you wear your glasses almost all the time then I think you should wear them on your wedding day. I agree with PP you want to look like you on your wedding day. I’m sure the veil will look fine with the glasses.

I wore my glasses on my wedding day. I had tried contacts a few years ago in an optometrist’s office, but that didn’t work out so well. I was thinking of trying to go without my glasses for the pictures, but I wouldn’t be able to see. My husband was glad I wore them, because they’re “me”. The only bad thing is in some pictures one of my eyes is half shielded by the glasses frames.
I think you look great either way.

Thank you everyone! At least my Fiance doesn’t really have a preference, I just know my parents are really hoping I won’t wear them.

I think you look beautiful in both photos! I wear glasses too, mainly because wearing contacts daily just doesn’t work for my schedule or my current budget! I think you ought to think about how you want to look for the event and how you want to look in your wedding photos. I’d probably plan to wear contacts for the ceremony and formal photos, and plan to switch to glasses early in the evening maybe after dinner. That way you get photos with both looks, and your eyes won’t get too tired as you party! The other reason that I would suggest that plan is that I have noticed that the frames of glasses can really date a photo. I love the look of your frames, but I wonder how you will feel about them in 20 or 30 years. I think I might plan to do something similiar, I know I won’t regret the look of contacts, but I might wish that I had choosen not to wear glasses!

I just realized how hard it is to see my glasses in the photo so this is what they look like off of my face:

Wear the glasses! Haha…I’m wearing mine. They’re “me.” But you look great either way.

I’m having the same dilemia….
I wish I saw more pictures of brides with glasses!
I have dark colored glasses like you, and they just seem to look odd with my dress…
I’m probably going to wear mine though just because it’s better to see than to not see!

i wore my glasses! i have never worn contacts (i have super sensitive eyes), so it wasn’t a question for me. but i still got shit about it from random people during the planning process, like my hair/make up person couldn’t believe it and tried to convince me to get contacts. umm nooo….
