My hair is quite long and coarse, it comes down to my lower back. I am not sure if I should wear it up or down, or half up. I would love curls but my hair is heavy so I’m not sure if it would hold. I will be wearing a beaded two-tier fingertip veil. And my gown is a satin trumpet/mermaid, with beading. What type of hairstyle do you think would suit me on my special day? I would love your opinions, tips and/or pics! And thanks in advance 🙂

Honestly, it really depends on the style and cut of your gown, especially the neckline.

Although I definitely have seen some gorgeous brides who have worn their hair down, I personally think most brides look best with their hair up on their wedding day. It’s generally more sophisticated, more timeless, and less of a hassle to maintain on the day of the wedding. It also helps to avoid having hair in your face while your leaning over to cut your cake and hug people, etc.

I wore mine half up half down, which turned out to be the way to go for me. Since you’re wearing a veil anyway, have your stylist curl the loose hair REALLY tight in the morning when you get ready, and by your reception when you take the veil off they should be falling loose and soft and pretty.
Honestly, with long hair, wearing it up is a bear- it’s SO MANY bobby pins to pull out that night!! And it’s SOOOOO heavy. I was glad my hair was down at the end of the night when I was trying to pull all the pins out.

This might sound crazy and totally out of the question, but would you consider cutting some of the length off (before your trial, if you haven’t had one already)? Or, straightening/relaxing it? I can see where the PP is coming from with the heaviness factor…but all down might overwhelm the other aspects of your look (the beading on the dress and veil, for instance). So, I guess my vote would be for half-up/down. Good luck!

I have long curly hair and mine will be going up not only because I like the way it looks, but mostly because I don’t want to have to worry about it all day. If you wear it up i goes up and gets shellaced in place and you don’t have to think about it the rest of the day. If I were to wear it down I would be fiddling with it and worrying about it sticking out. I’d worry about wind. I’d worry about humidity making it frizzy. I’d worry about having a wonky strand during pictures. So to avoid worry. My hair will be up. Love the look of down, if it wouldn’t drive you crazy like it would me!

@pinkfrog: I know what you mean! I have lots of hair that’s also really thick and it SERIOUSLY hurts my head when I wear it up. Even half up hurts a little bit. I’ll be wearing it half up because it’d be in my face otherwise, but I’d be in a lot of pain with a full updo. Haha.

@miiss.perez: I have long hair and wore it half up half down, and I have to say I regret it. My hair is also thick, and I was hoping for curls too. My hairdresser did the curls but they didnt stay, and now I regret it 🙁

Since your dress is of a sexy silhouette, I vote half up half down. Plus that’s what I did 😉
