I didn’t read the article but that Public Service Announcement commercial where the pregnant mom is driving and her toddler is in his car seat while she is smoking always makes me cringe. I think it’s so wrong. But I do think that when people smoke around non-smokers, that also doesnt give us (nonsmokers) the chance to chose for themselves. I think it’s disgusting

I agree with you. My mom remembers long road trips with her mom and stepdad growing up in the 1950s with BOTH parents chain smoking the whole time and the windows up. It was torture for her. I definitely think it’s abuse because it’s so dangerous, and gross!

I think it should.  Smoking anything.  Second and third-hand smoking is so destructive.

In Newfoundland you are not allowed to smoke with children in the car. I have had words with strangers when they did it… it just makes me so mad.

Not even a question in my mind.  Absolutely it should be banned.  I can’t stand when I see parents/adults smoking around kids.  I hate smoking, I hold my breath when I walk past people who are smoking and make it very obvious that I’m not okay with it.

I totally agree, and my husband is a smoker! He only smokes outside and I make him change clothes and wash his hands/brush his teeth before he even goes near our son after he has had a cig.  I wish he would quit but that is up to him, he knows how I feel about it.

Absolutely. Smoking in general should be against the law, imho. My parents were both chain smokers when I was a child, and both quit when I was 7 or so. Now I am extra sensitive to smoke. I make it a point to walk with my son as far away from people smoking as I can. When they are being obnoxious about it I make a point to cough in front of them extra loudly. I made the choice to keep my lungs clean, and I hate people who impose their disgustingness on others. Can you tell it really irks me?? 😛

Smoking in the car with kids? Sure, outlaw it.

Smoking being outlawed altogether? Hell no. Just another unconstitutional excuse for the government to try and save us from ourselves. I’m an adult. I would not subject children to my bad choices, but I will defend my right to make them.

(I’m not a smoker, but I will defend people’s right to choose what they put in their bodies. McDonalds is just as toxic and I don’t see the drive thru lines getting any shorter, or pictures of a fatty heart being put on their packages).

@KatyElle: i agree with you!! outlaw it around kids PLEASE!! but grown adults should have the right to choose if they want to put toxins into their body!

@KatyElle: Agreed!

This is the response that I typed out like 20 minutes ago, but decided not to post because I thought I’d get yelled at. Haha. But since someone has already said it, I might as well share:

While I’m not a smoker, and never would be because of how disgusting and unhealthy it is, I’ve always had a bit of a problem with laws about smoking. Like, in the past five years or so lots of places in my area have banned smoking, and that has never sit right with me for some reason. I was smoked around by LOTS of people my whole childhood and I wouldn’t consider it abuse. I’m not saying I liked it, but I don’t think it was abusive. And I understand that it’s not the best choice to subject your child to secondhand smoke, but I don’t think it should be illegal. To me, it feels almost in the same vein of feeding your children really fatty foods that will cause them to be obese – not the best choice, but probably shouldn’t be made illegal. Ya know?

@KatyElle: Totally agree with everything you said.

I am getting SO tired of not being able to make (what some say) is a bad decision. Not that I want to make a bad decision, but it is still my choice. We should just all be robots. I don’t smoke, but some people enjoy it…..So they SHOULD be able to choose!! I don’t think smoking around your children should be illegal, just common sense…Which seems to be lacking these days is everyone….Maybe because we aren’t allowed to make life choices anymore.

ETA:My entire family smokes. In the car, in the house, everywhere. SO gross. Where I live, smoking was banned nearly everywhere but inside your own home of on your property. YOu can’t smoke in the mall parking lot, you can’t smoke on the street, you can’t smoke anywhere.
