It is your day and ultimately you can do what you want and like matching or not matching.

Ours matched our colors and theme, but my fiance drew them so it was easy to have them match.  To me the Save the Dates set the tone for the wedding.  I may be a little more extreme in this thought just because of my professional background in marketing. 🙂

We printed our magnets though Vistaprint, which let us upload our image to be printed on the magnets.  I would suggest designing your own if you want spefic colors, or contacting Vistaprint, they may be able to alter colors on one of their magnet templates for you.

ours were completely different. we had a very formal/elegant/modern wedding, and our STDS were magnets that looked like pieces of cork bord (very quirky and casual).

i thought it was cool because people were so surprised when they got our VERY DIFFERENT formal invitation.

Ours matched our “theme” but not the colors.  The feeling we were going for was a 1920s glamour.  Our colors are navy, gold and fuscia.

Here’s a pic of our Save-The-Date Cards.  They obviously don’t “match” with the colors but I think they really set of tone of what’s to come.

(the postcard on the left is the STD) it’s hard to read but the text says “The Legendary Park Plaza, Los Angeles, CA”   the date is at the bottom.

Ultimately I think it doesn’t matter if if doesn’t match your colors.  Seriously, no one will remember it or even think about it.  Our thank you cards don’t match anything about our wedding and I don’t think anyone has even noticed.

@MrsBoomBoom: does that match your theme? is the skull motif going to carry over to your wedding?

@MrsBoomBoom: I think Save-The-Date Cards are very considerate especially when you have out of town people.  You can also just do Save-The-Date Cards for those people.

Save-The-Date Cards can be supper cheap.  We designed our ourself and got them printed for free at Vista Print.  Just paid $5.99 for shipping.

I voted doesn’t matter as it really doesn’t to most people.

I am one of those people oober particular about details so yes ours does match. I am one of the very few.

We didn’t go with our colors on the Save-The-Date Cards and did something totally quirky because that’s who we are. It fit our venue though. I always thought Save-The-Date Cards was a chance to do something different and fun and not follow a theme since many who send them haven’t even gotten that far in the planning process.

Our colors are purple, raspberry pink and green but we picked colors from our vintage envelope. http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/our-save-the-dates-are-finally-done-exhales

Our formal invitations will be totally different and quite formal and modern.

My personal preference is to use your wedding colours as it sets the theme. However most weddings I’ve been invited to as a guest they never did. We had ordered all of our wedding stationary from magnet street online. We were able to customize all the colours and I highly recommend them as they did a fantastic job!
