I don’t think they have to match. We did  a semi 50s theme for our engagment photos, and our wedding was Victorian, so they definately didn’t match. I highly suggest that if you want to do something fun and flirty for your engagement shoot, you should do it. There is no etiquette rule that states the engagement shoot and the wedding has to be the same theme.

Agreed, engagement photos and the theme of your wedding don’t have to match. It is actually makes it more fun! The 50’s style will be adorable.

Nope, I don’t think they have to match at all.  We had a garden tea party style wedding, and much more urban style engagement shoot.

Nah!  They don’t have to match.  I LOVE your idea with the 50s look.

Love your inspiration and the e-pics definitely don’t have to go with your theme 🙂 Take it as an opportunity to get to know your photog and also do something unique and different to celebrate your engagement. Then the wedding photos can stand on their own. Yay, go for it!

Have fun with your engagement shoot! I sell vintage on Etsy & have always been inspired by vintage/rustic themes so we are going for the same theme for wedding & engagement.. but that’s only becase that’s what we are both naturally drawn towards!
