So husband and I are getting ready to leave for our Honeymoon a week from tomorrow, yay! We have been planning this trip for awhile and had decided to splurge on a big honeymoon before we start a family. We are starting our trip with 2 days in London and then driving north and stopping at various points in England and Scotland before ending our trip in Edinburgh.
So for the past 3 days there have been riots going on around London, which have now spread to other cities in England. This is horrible for the people living over there who have to feel unsafe, and are having their homes and businesses damaged.
So the big question is what do we do now? If we cancel our trip we probably won’t be able to go again until next August due to our work schedules and even then it’s not the most ideal time for us.
Any UK Bees, how bad is it over there? I know sometimes the media can make things seem worse then it really is. Should we cancel our trip?

Where are you staying? Tourist areas are usually not bothered by this sort of thing.

We are staying in a pretty touristy area, however we google mapped the areas where the riots are and the closest one was about 15min from where we are staying.

my understanding is the trouble is in not so great areas/government housing blocks and that city london/tourist area should be fine – i wouldnt cancel

I’m from London, and I can quite honestly say the places where these idiots are kicking off are not the sort of places you will be going to as a tourist! They are generally in the ‘not so nice’ areas of London, where I wouldn’t even go to, so I highly doubt that there would be any need for you to as a tourist.
London is a pretty big place, and I doubt it would affect your plans much. I live in Australia now, and am flying back to London in exactly a week. Although the mess they leave will take months (years?) to clean up, I’m pretty sure (well hope) that these morons will have given up by then!
Please don’t be put off by what is happening over there, London and the UK is generally a really nice place, its just unfortunate that theres a few wasters that are trying to ruin the country for everyone.

From what I’m hearing, go anyway but be careful. PPs are right, the riots are generally confined to areas you’re unlikely to be in, but be very careful about wandering the streets for the moment I’d say. Once you’re out of London, I’d be inclined to avoid the bigger cities, but you should be fine, and while you’re there just keep your wits about you and don’t take unnecessary risks. Have a wonderful honeymoon!

I live and work in London and already things are much, much calmer tonight. Last night was really bad, but probably not in areas that you would go to as a tourist anyway. Now it seems much more under control and by next week I think it’ll be fine. Please do still come, it is an awesome city, and feel free to PM me if you want advice on where to go, what to do, shows to see in the West End, anything at all! – and also Edinburgh is a great place to finish your honeymoon, it’s beautiful!! you will have a great time and I honestly wouldn’t tell you to come if I didn’t think you’d be safe.
