- Wedding: June 2010
My mom and I realized yesterday that our down-the-street neighbors have a bluegrass festival on their property the third Saturday of every June… and guess when our at-home wedding is planned!
The festival isn’t huge, the best turn out would be maybe 100 people total. It doesn’t start until 2pm, and our ceremony is at 10:30am with a brunch reception that will go until about 2. But people bring their own picnics before the music begins & there will be sound checks and that sort of thing.
My main concern is being able to hear the commotion of them setting up at the wedding, and also visual commotion that would be distracting – cars driving down the street in front of the house and whatnot. They are far enough away (about half a mile I think, and around the corner out of sight) that it wouldn’t be super noticable but I think it could still be a distraction.
On the upside, since the reception ends around the same time that the festival begins, I know some of our guests would be interested in going, and I’m not opposed to that at all. I wanted the wedding weekend to be a like a vacation for them, and it would be a great chance for some of our out of town guests to get a flavor of Tennessee.
Of course, my folks will be out of town this weekend, so they won’t be able to observe how early the set up begins, how busy & loud it is, what the traffic is like, etc. In past years, we weren’t watching for those sort of things, and it is gaining popularity every year, so while it may have not been big a couple years ago, a year from now it very well could be.
My mom is going to get me their phone number so I can ask them specific questions: when do people start coming in? When do sound checks start? That sort of thing. They had this date first and its a standing thing, so I wouldn’t ask them to do anything differently – I just want to get an idea.
What are your thoughts? I am trying not to let this upset me but the last thing I want is "Check mic 1 2 3" and dozens of cars to distract from the home wedding I have always dreamed of. We picked June 19 because its the earliest in the summer we could do with FI’s schedule, and I know the later in the summer we go, the hotter it will be most likely. But what’s one week, really?
Thanks in advance for your help bees!
