I think if you have the pies then you are covered. They are big too. I wouldn’t stress yourself out adding the candy, I mean you could but its one more thing to keep an eye on and invest in and people will be already walking out the door holding a pie so to me the candy seems unnecessary.

I think the apple pies are a good idea!

If you do decide on the candy bar, I unfortunately don’t really have any photos aside from this gem..

but, I did get most of our candy from BJs. I went to a speciality “candy warehouse” where it was “only” $7 a pound! (WTF?!) So off to BJs I went. We have (so far), York, Reeses, Airheads, twizzlers, tootsie rolls, candy buttons, little lollipops, gumballs, caramel creams. here’s the price list my Future Mother-In-Law compiled for me from BJs –

  • 54 oz skittles – $6
  • 4 lbs jelly beans – $5
  • airhead sweet/sour 18 ct sticks – $8
  • 5 lbs tootsies – $9
  • 40 oz asst nestle minis – $8
  • twizzlers 180 ct – $7.50
  • reese mini 56 oz – $10.30
  • hershey mini 56 oz – $10.30
  • caramel creams 4 lb – $8
  • snickers 50 oz – $9.50
  • ring pops 40 ct – $11
  • dum dum 360 ct – $8
  • fireballs 200 ct – $8
  • kisses 56 oz – $10.30
  • swedish fish 3.5 lbs – 6.50

I got the candy buttons, twizzlers and mini unicorn pops from oriental trading. if you do any online ordering I’d go through them – they charge shipping based on dollar spent, not weight as many other sites.

That candy warehouse I ducked into said that they advise brides to buy .25 lb per guest. I don’t know how true that is, but we’ve spent about $90 so far and are over halfway there, so we’re going to wing it. My DJ said that weddings they have been to with candy bars, people will clear the dance floor as soon as it’s open and wait in line for 20 minutes!

If it were me, I wouldn’t bother.  You’re already doing the apple pies, that’s plenty!

Apple pies are such a great idea! I’m having the candy bar at our wedding but I got super involved in it with the colors of the candy/signage, ect since we aren’t really having favors. I’d say people won’t miss it if they’re gettin to take home a whole pie!

Don’t forget to clip coupons and watch for deals for candy!

I picked up 8 bags of Dove Chocolates for $3.12 TOTAL (there’s 35-40 pieces per bag). I happened to have a $1/1 coupon, which tied with Harris Teeters buy 1 get 1 sale, and super doubles (so I bought one for $2.39, used $1/1, got it for $0.39 – just went back numerous times – I was already there for other deals).

Just a thought on a way to keep it cheap 🙂 – You have until October, so you could start now. All my chocolate has a best before 2012 date on it!

I’m still watching for more deals – but I’m doing color specific (blue/orange – the chocolates are blue wrappers). The one thing I plan to splurge on is blue gummy sharks – I used to LOVE these as a kid.
