We live in the Chicago area and heard about Timothy Whaley & Associates. It sounds like a great company that offers great photography.
I am diagnosed with a memory problem (think Drew Berrymore in 50 First Dates), so even though our wedding budget is small – I am paying for the photography with my own money. I worked 4 jobs so that I can get whatever I want, so I want to make sure it’s a great one. I know you pay for what you get – so I want to make sure this is worth all the money we are spending (and that we will get the memories captured so I can look back at them the week after and try to remember some of those moments).
Our photographer sent us this link of his work.. What do you bees think?

no def not. Anyone that has music on their website should be shot and def not given buisness.

Honestly…I didn’t like any pics on his website…Besides, photographers usually put their best works to show to the public…and if those pics are his best..then ..no thank you…

I dislike them because they flooded our wedding email account and also my Facebook newsfeed when I’m on a computer without AdBlock on it. Besides that though, I’m not thoroughly impressed with them, What really matters is if you like what you see, if you like the style of work they do, if they fit your budget and you get what you’re looking for from them, etc. etc.

Read the reviews and see what you think. It won’t hurt to go and talk with them. See if they are willing to work with you and see if they are willing to give you what you want. Ask to see FULL wedding profiles as well.

If the price is sub-$1500 for a day’s worth of photography (that seems to be what they have listed), I think they provide pretty fair quality for price. If you have more to spend, then I think you can get better photography, but I totally get that it doesn’t always work that way.

@ducky244: I wasn’t impressed by the images on his web site. He sure goes in for tilted horizon lines – which I find very hard to look at, as if I have to tilt my head all the time, and his black and white images were of far lesser quality than his color images. Generally it is the other way ’round.
I really think that in the Chicago area you could do far better.
Are you having a videographer as well?

@Atalanta: “Anyone who is NOT going to hire me because the music on my website makes them angry is just an angry person, and not someone I want to work with anyway.” Jeff Newsom 😛
However, not a fan of this person’s work at all. I think everything is flat, poorly composed, and shot at like F11.

@PassionatePhotoLady: I donno who Jeff is nor do I care, but no, not angry, you’re just tacky as hell.
There is no way I’d hire someone with music on their website casue they are obviously stuck in 1993, not cause it angers me, but becasue music = they don’t know what the hell they are doing.

At $1200 for all day coverage, their quailty level is in line with their pricing. However, if you have the budget to go up some, I would definitely do it. I just don’t find the work to be of great quality.

I don’t enjoy music on sites either but Jeff Newsom is one of the best wedding photographers in the world. bar none. If I had the chance to hire him I wouldn’t care if his website played What Does the Fox say on an endless loop.

All very helpful comments – but now I’m freaking out a little =) Our wedding is August 30. I have about 2500-3000 to spend. I was hoping to get two photographers that worked well with a videographer (meaning photographers that are professionals). I am meeting with this photographer today at 7pm. So thank you @kalyn.davies: for the suggetions about what to ask.
Our wedding is in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. How do you find a good photographer? I spent weeks researching and this company was literally the one we were impressed with the most. This is the most important thing to me because if we don’t have photos/good photos – I’m afraid I won’t be able to remember this important day (I know a lot of brides have the same issue because the day is so crazy – but I literally can’t remember what I did a couple days ago on a typical, no-stress, fun day).
Please, please any help would be so appreciated.

@Jbbee: LMAO! Your comment just made my morning 😛
@Atalanta… Really? Cause you sure sound like a pretty angry person to me right now.

@ducky244: This is a link to the thread here on the Bee about Chicago area photographers. It might be a start, or perhaps you’ve already seen this…

@Astra: I did see it – but it’s mostly people just posting who they chose, and not good or bad reviews. Also – a lot of people are choosing based on budget, and that’s not what I want to do. I want to chose based on how good they are.
