personally, in my circle, a reception without booze, isn’t a reception. i dont know anyone who’s had or been to a dry wedding/reception, but i know if we did it would be a bit of a bummer. can you do like a nice sandwich or cheese and cracker platter?

Tanleggedjuliet:  I’m a bit confused because you say your reception is at midday (that means noon here but maybe something different where you are) but most people will have eaten lunch already? Noon is definitely lunch time for most people.  Having a wedding without alcohol would not be acceptable in my area but it may well be in yours, you know your crowd. I wouldn’t not have it though just because it’s dessert food. I’ve been to plenty of afternoon teas where champagne etc. is still served with no issues.

Our reception was “high tea” around 3 pm. Little pastries, sandwiches etc.. with tea, but as a way of having some alchohol we served mamosas which was a big hit, how about some light alchohol and a limited quantity so not enough for anyone to get drunk on? I would do champagne or white/rose wine, mamosa, something like that, but not unlimited quantity.

I think whiskey is a bit too heavy for midday, beer and wine I think would be okay but I do think you should have SOME food there if you plan on having alcohol.

Tanleggedjuliet:  people are rude to expect anything beyond appropriate food and beverage for the time of day (meal at meal time, snack at non meal time)

I think that for a dessert reception, mimosas would be lovely but maybe through in a light beer option as well.

Could you do beer and punch?  For a dessert reception, I think the type of punch that has sherbet in it would be great!  Pimm’s Cup is another good option for during the day.
