i would go bigger. Darling Husband and i have lived in small apartments and i hated it. the one we have now is decent but i would love to have more space, especially in the kitchen. $1150 isn’t bad either (i’m in the SF bay area so rent is high here too and $1150 is cheap!). since the roommates wouldn’t be around much, i think it’s a good situation. you guys would probably have a lot of privacy.

I think I would stay with your apartment in order to really save up. It really depends on whether or not you are totally sick living there, tho! If so then move! 🙂

I am confused about you livign with other people. do you currently live with someone else or just you and your SO? are the only options to live with other peope?

another thought….movers are crazy expensive…are you sure $200 will cover it?

@confettiegg2000:  I would never get a ground level apt in NYC.  I lived in NY all my life.  Too many opportunities for burglaries.  Sorry :/  On top of that, I wouldn’t want to move, I’d rather save more money, and I’d hate to live with not just one roommate, but three.  No, thanks.

Bigger!  I have lived in teeny apts before and it makes me itchy.  So that’s my vote.  The rent still sounds really reasonable in the bigger place.

@confettiegg2000:  Are there windows close to the street?  Or is the building like set back so you can’t really tell from the street that it’s a residential bldg with windows?  Because I’d say a majority of the burglaries are through windows.  I used to prosecute in NY and most of the burglaries I handled were through windows.  Not to say that it can’t happen on another floor – and it did – usually due to a fire escape.  But also, having roof access is SWEET!

@confettiegg2000:  how long do you plan on staying in one of these apts?  if this is going to be long term, then comfort will probably win.  if it’s only for a year or so, stay with the cheaper, smaller one.  what are your future plans/goals?  that will dictate a lot.

i think i would look for other options…… both rents are really reasonable (considering)

we live in jersey city bc its way more space and less expensive but obviously that doesnt work.for everyone.

i personally need to have a nice private space to go home to and sharing a tiny spot with a bunch of people and clutter would drive me crazy

i assume you are younger since you are ok w roommates

I voted (B) move to the larger apartment. I would not be able to deal with living in such a small space.

BUT if it was ME I would add another option (C) Move anywhere, no matter how tiny, where I wouldn’t have to have any roommates! But that doesn’t seem to bother you, so I would go with B and move to a larger place. Good luck!

i am not sure if i could put up with 3 roommates.  i personally have never had a roommate, except bf or dh.  i like the idea of my privacy.

i think i would rather have a smaller place with no roommates.
