I see where you’re coming from, but I would never throw an engagement party for myself. If your friends want to throw one for you they will. Congratulations on your engagement!

@OP- I definately don’t think you should throw yourself one. If your MOH lives there, she could throw it for you.

I personally wouldn’t throw an engagement party for myself, but that’s just me. It just feels weird to me. I also wouldn’t mind if my friends invited me to an engagement party they hosted for themselves, though. So, just do what feels best to you!

You don’t throw your own party when it’s a party that’s in your honor.

I don’t think couples usually throw engagment parties for themselves but I think it’s fine to go out to eat/drink to celebrate.

@Miss_AshNicole:  …we plan to, but not call it that. We arent having a bridal/grooms party, and I’m sure someone will still offer, but throwing parties/showers is kind of my “thing”, so I’d rather just do it myself 🙂 We’re just going to be like “hey, party next week!” We won’t give it an official title 🙂

ETA: per my most recent spring/summer Knot magazine, it’s fine for a couple to host their own engagement party as long as they understand a)as hosts, THEY are to foot the entire bill and b)they understand not to invite anyone not invited to the wedding.

To quote: “These days, more and more couples are throwing the fete themselves (just keep in mind that if you’re doing the inviting, it’s your responsibility to foot the bill).”

If your parents are throwing you one that’s more than enough. No reason to throw one for yourself.

@Miss_AshNicole:  i honestly don’t see why not. but a e-party from to me you don’t get gifts or anything….so it’s just a celebration party

@Miss_AshNicole:  I don’t think so…I do want to send an invitation, though, so I’m going to just try to look for a funny party-themed one 🙂
