Where is this coming from?  There has to be some sort of backstory or article that prompted it.

Drinking while pregnant is a personal decision. Most doctors say 1 drink or 2 is not going to hurt anything.

For me personally I abstained from drinking while pregnant except had half a glass of champagne at my own wedding.

Out of curiosity…how would you screen for alcohol use?

The only way to tell if someone is using alcohol is if they admit or they are intoxicated at the present moment and you give a blood or breath test.

My answer is definitely not.  What else will they be allowed to screen you for?  Screen you for eating sushi or getting into hot tubs??

@FutureMrsHallam:  How would they be screened? On a weekly basis? I don’t understand how this would work. It makes me think of weight watchers for alcohol.

    Also, no.

It depends by what you mean by screening.  By asking them questions about their alcohol use, sure.  That’s part of the history many doctors take anyway.

If they are showing up tanked to the OBGYN appointment…. then maybe?  I don’t know how you would test for this.

Um, no. Plus, many doctors agree you can have 1 drink per week anyways while you are pregnant!

No. It’s not anyone else’s business.

Screening when? Like at birth? Well that’s only effective if you’ve had a drink just before going to the hospital.

Screening when you go to the doctor to confirm pregnancy? Again, only effective if you’ve been drinking recently. Also, a lot of people don’t know they are pregnant at first, so it’s not uncommon for a woman to have some drinks just before she finds out she’s pregnant.

I think it’s totally imposible to “screen” for this, so the questionnull not really valid.
