Hey! My friend is getting married and is on a budget. Renting or buying linens is pretty much impossible because of price, and they (both bride and groom and families) feel that linens aren’t necessary and not to mention making cleaning up harder! Hiring someone to do the work is out of the question too. It’s going to be a fairly casual wedding no fuss. I’ve heard of linen-like tablecloths and wondered if anyone had used them. If you have how did they look and feel? The other options we have are plastic tablecloths (doubled maybe?) or paper. Should we use table runners or squares or even ribbon to dress it up a bit??? The bride is thinking mason jar centerpieces with a few flowers. Maybe a few wooden boxes with fruit or flowers. Any experience or advice is appreciated! And of course pics too! 😉 Thanks

jaijaig88: One option wojuld be to use paper tablecloths , then roll a kraft paper runner down the center. It gives that rustic, casual vibe that would work well with her mason jars.

julies1949: Thanks!
Would using it as a runner make it more “wedding-y”? Idk.

jaijaig88: I think that if you are doing anything out of the norm, it helps gain acceptance if you commit to it totally. I have been to weddings with kraft paper used as tablecloths. They even scattered crayons and markers for people to draw right on the “cloth”. I think a wedding with white paper tablecloths, kraft paper runners, and paper doilies for placemats would be beautiful. The placemats can even do double duty as placecards.

jaijaig88: I just have to say thank you so much for posting this. I’ve been stressing hard about our linens.. We also cant afford to rent. You saved me from posting my own post about this, which I probably wouldn’t have gotten many replies to!
julies1949: Do you have any idea where to get those table cloths and the table runner? I’ve seen some of the paper ones at walmart but they just look so cheap.. the ones in your picture actually look really nice!

Josheen: Other brides have recommended
http://www.smartyhadaparty.com
Do a search here on WeddingBee for linen-like or paper tablelcoths threads.
Keep in mind that sometimes you can buy linen tablecloths from another bride, then re-sell them yourself to reduce the cost.
Check http://www.adhuntr.com You can sort the results by geographical area.
The runner is just a roll of brown kraft paper. In the first pic they cut a decorative edge on the paper.
You can buy rolls of kraft paper many places. This 18″ wide roll is perfect for a runner

julies1949: Thank you so much!
Josheen: And you’re welcome!
I would love to see pics of bees doing paper or plastic just to see it ‘for real’. Paper seems like our best bet thanks to @julies1949!
