My next ring is to be an Alexandrite. I just recently learned of this stone and now I must have one. Any and all info is appreciated. Show me yours, tell me about it… Where did you purchase yours and so on. Thanks ladies.

@als1214: it’s a really cool stone. I used to have a 14k gold rhodolite ring with an alexandrite halo (sounds pretty but the setting was actually really ugly) so I had it disassembled so I could re-set the alexandrites. They were tiny so I was thinking a channel set ring. I can’t find them at the moment but I happen to come across them I’ll post a pic. I also have a simulated alexandrite in my class ring.

@als1214: yes I’d like to see pics of comparison lighting. Mine were green in outdoor lighting and purple in artificial lighting.

Are you getting a natural or synthetic alexandrite? Natural ones are quite expensive. I do not have an alexandrite but I do have a sapphire in my engagement ring with “alexandrite shift” it is predominantly purple since I’m inside a lot but incandescent its violet, clouds its green, direct sun its blue violet, sunrise sunset its burghundy, twilight its olive, inside its orchid purple with champagne flashes :). I’ve yet to get the bugger to photo its colors other than purple though.

Here are some loose alexandrites. Any opinions on AAA vs AA?

I have a loose one that I got from jtv a while back. These pics were taken at my kitchen table (artificial lighting). It actually looks more drab in person, which is probably why I haven’t set it.
