Dress shopping was miserable for me. I have the worst body image, it doesn’t matter how many people make positive comments, I only see the flaws.

We are having a Destination Wedding. Once I would mention that, consultants would typically only pull “beachy” dresses. My mom, BFF, etc were pressuring me to get a beachy dress. Ugh. If I put on a different dress, they would comment, “It’s not beachy”. It was so defeating.

Dress 1: I loved it. But everyone else hated it (I guess because it wasn’t beachy). I think it is EOA.

Dress 2: Martina Liana.

Dress 3: My favorite. Hands down. I loved it. BUTTTTTT my fiance HATES mermaid dresses. He said, “I don’t care what you get, but please do not buy a mermaid dress.” Regardless of how I felt, I couldn’t buy a dress I knew he wouldn’t like.

Dress 4: I think this one was a Maggie Sottero. Pretty, but eh.

Dress 5: I cannot recall the designer on this one, maybe EOA. It was another mermaid. Loved it too, UGH! I had to ask the consultant to stop pulling them, I knew I wouldn’t buy it.

Dress 6: Stella York. Soft. Pretty. Romantic. I couldn’t walk comfortably in this one. I take long strides, I felt like a penguin walking in this one.

I don’t have a photo of THE ONE on this computer, but it’s a big ol ballgown. And, I don’t care if it is beachy or not. I felt comfortable, and my Fiance loves ballgowns.

A11eycat:  The bottom one is my dress! This is great thread, and I love how there are lots of dresses on here that still look amazing but just weren’t “The one” for that bride but it still helps others get and idea!

This one was a no-go for me. I tried on 7-8 dresses. I saw photos of this dress online and fell in love. It’s Lazaro from Spring 2013 so they had to special order a sample for me to try on and everything…. but it wasn’t worth the hype! I’m sure the fact that it was an older sample didn’t help but I am so in love with the dress I ended up with!

herrera2016:  It was one of the first I tried and honestly the simplicity, price and shape of it made it a contender for a logn time, but I really really wanted sleeves… I ended up with a mermaid with sleeves in the ended. Also a mori lee. Glad I held out!

Found image of the other £18,000 that didn’t work out because, obviously, the price (even after negotiating down to £12,000):

Very seriously thought of the below dress almost right up until the wedding, classic classy beautiful and timeless, I was Very torn between “princess dream” (which is what I bought) and this dress with clean lines and classic lace edged veil:

The below was my first true favourite, but it was only the second shop I went to and the dress didn’t seem bridal enough, in the end what I bought was like a very wowed up version of this one, including graduating to blush pink at the bottom:

(I tried with a belt but preferred without)

I was totally in love with the below peacock dress from the model photos but when I tried it on it needed a ton of alteration to create a train, create a ballgown skirt with layers underneath and a custom cathedral version of the veil – after alterations it became cost prohibitive and it seemed a little bit like a costume, still think it’s a super pretty design:

I was never really contemplating buying the below dress, but it’s what I thought would please my mother and I did feel very appropriate in it and my bridesmaids thought it was a strong contender:

The below two dresses are from my first dress appointment, I left so unhappy and deflated as literally nothing felt even remotely like it could be The One, these two are literally the “best” from a very bad bunch, the slim fit…just no (especially from behind a terrible choice for my figure and I hated that veil) and the bigger dress sure photographed ok from behind but had a very unflattering stiff assymetric front and overall both dresses were Very uncomfortable:

and… this is The One!! my ultimate dream wedding dress which I eventually bit the bullet and bought it! ๐Ÿ™‚

below are two pics w/o the veil and w/o inner lining for the bottom half of the gown so it’s kind of see-thru.

Mine is a little more crazy…I actually have purchased 2 dresses that aren’t the one.  One my mom bought, one I bought, and both I have had regret on.  SO now I’m selling them and starting from scratch.  Sigh.  Next time I am going shopping ALONE! Lol.
