I have a very strong suspicion that SO and I will be getting engaged on an upcoming trip. We’ll be where I don’t have much internet access, but I’ll be able to use my iPhone. I’m obviously letting my family and close friends know, but I don’t want to just post a hand pic as an engagement announcement. It’s just a personal preference and I’m not criticizing people that have done it.
First of all, I HATE my hands! Secondly, I think the engagement should be about the happy couple and not about the ring. I also don’t need people estimating how much money SO makes! haha.
Show me the first non-hand-close-up pics that you posted on Facebook! I’m thinking of just posting a pic with no caption to see how long it takes people (again, just Facebook friends that I’m not personally going to call/text) to realize the ring. Help me be creative.

To be honest, I don’t think people would really notice unless it is a close up of the ring. When I’m on facebook, if a vacation photo from someone else pops up, if I look at it at all, I just tend to look at the background – where they’re staying, or at what they’re doing, rather than scrutinising the people themselves.
ETA: In case you’re wondering, the first photo of my fiance and I posted on facebook following our engagement was us at paintball a few weeks later. We’re shooting each other, which is kinda loving, I guess…?

It was probably a random bar pic from months later. The pics we took immediately after the proposal were for the “private collection” (aka we both looked awful in them!)

Agree with PP.
This is mine.. you can’t even see my ring! haha

The light-up drink menu that Fiance used to propose to me 🙂

i never posted anything. A friend did post one of the night we got engaged. And i look AWFUL because i had be crying! Doesnt matter though.
I think one of you both holding your ring hand is fine. Honestly i dont see the need to blast it on facebook. Half the people you dont actually know anymore. And the ones that matter will call or something.
Hahah can you tell i kind of hate facebook? If i could i would delete it.

- Wedding: August 2013 - Rocky Mountains USA
I posted a shot taken of us in the random hotel room corner where he proposed, me with the hugest grin and holding up my hand, and him looking all pleased with himself. It’s cute 🙂 Sorry I didn’t put it up – he hates the idea of being on “the interwebs” and so I try not to put pix of him up toooo much.

We didn’t even announce our engagement on facebook. By the time we told everyone in person who we wanted to tell, it seemed like old news and kind of AWing. I am weird about facebook though.

@SarahSmilesDec28: Haha me too. I called all my friends and family personally. I actually deleted my FB account to make sure none of them found out if someone posted something. So it was like 5 days later and all the people i cared about already knew.

We called & texted our family & friends first, then uploaded this photo to facebook & we both changed our relationship status at the same time.
