Is there a name for that? ALSO…
Does anyone know what that little metal “bar” is called that is going around this center stone and attaches the prongs?
i like the look and that there is no basket, but would prefer it without the bar, like this one:
Is there a name/function for The bar above? I’m working ondesigning my ering right now and I don’t want to be so super picky, but I really like the bottom look of the prongs (I prefer it without the cathedral, though). I was just curious if there was a term I should use with the jeweler I’ve been working with besides “that little bar thing.” 🙂
does anyone have a ring with prongs like the one below? I’d LOVE to see them from multiple angles. Thanks!!

In my experience, the jewelers I have worked with refer to your top example as a basket setting. The “bar” is what makes it a basket. The others – without that bar – are usually referred to as prong settings. So for my ring, I requested a 4 prong head. Mine is cathedral, which I understand you are not looking for, but the head sounds like what you want.

I kept it simple because I wanted the side of my diamond to show.
