I’m making this thread to show some appreciation towards nontraditional/alternative engagement rings! I have a blue diamond ring and I’ve gotten some unneccessary comments about it from family members. Mostly because it’s not ‘traditional’. Well, who cares? My fiance picked it out because he wanted a ring as unique as I am, so he says. Here is a picture of my ring and I would love to see yours!

Ooo I love your blue diamond. Such a pretty shade!
Ive got an anniverary antique ring I wear in place of my ering, which is a brown diamond halo. I love them both 🙂

I have a purple sapphire and black diamond that is quite untraditional, though very us. He custom designed it and it has lots of nerdy little details hidden in it, but I definitely get comments from people who don’t think it is an engagement ring.

I love non-traditional rings! I think they really show the personality of the couple
My center stone is a black onyx and all the little stones are rubies. I’ve had one person ask about it and get really excited about it being “different” (this was an older gentleman who had his own unique wedding ring) and I’ve had a few people who are unsure of what it is. I really don’t mind because I love what it stands for and how it looks.

I love my “non traditional” ring!!

littleshybride : your ring is gorgeous! Mine is non traditional in that it isn’t a round brilliant cut. I get the question “what kind of stone is that” all the time, mostly because rose cuts with large facets aren’t that popular, though they’ve started becoming a bit more popular recently. I love unique rings 🙂

YAY! I love rings that are a little “different” and I’m loving everything I see in this thread so far! <3
I think my ring falls under this category too.I know round white stones are traditional, but I feel my setting is pretty unique/non traditional! 🙂 Rose-inspired, rose-gold solitaire setting.

Nontraditional, eh? My ring and I fit right in here!
The photo is from the jeweler’s page – I haven’t taken a good photo of it myself yet!
FH and I are big Stargate fans, and that shared interest is one of the reasons he messaged me online originally. I said early on, when we first started talking about rings, that I’d love something that referenced Stargate somehow. He worked with the designers and they came up with this design. I didn’t want to see it till he proposed, and I was so surprised! The part with the rubies turns like the Stargate does in the show. (Also, we’re definitely nerds. )

What beautiful rings!! I really think nontraditional rings are just going to become more and more popular as time goes on, which is great!
I have a purple sapphire. I was never really interested in having a diamond, I just love color too much lol. At first I wanted an amethyst, since purple is my favorite color, but then I read on the Bee that you should have a harder stone for an engagement ring, and I figured since I’m clumsy I should probably go with a sapphire.
I haven’t gotten any rude or insensitive comments on it not being a diamond or clear stone. Mostly just comments on how they love the color, they love that it’s different, etc. Several people have said they didn’t even know that sapphires came in different colors, and were interested to learn that, so I’m educating people too! Lol.
