This is my great grandmothers 50th wedding anniversary from the 1950’s. It’s 2ct equivalent amethyst in a gold setting with a white gold basket and prongs. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

Oh thank you ! I didn’t  actually   know   what foil backed meant so had to look it up. No they aren’t –   the emeralds are completely  backed with gold, you can’t  see the back of the stone , the diamonds you can see the  back of,  through  a little circle of gold .

Oh thank you ! It never ceases to amaze me  that the diamonds   are  as clear and bright as they must have  been when bought for some  Georgian era lady !  It needs resizing up, but jewellers tell me they don’t want to do it , its too old and fragile , so I just take it out  and look at it every so often …

Oh wow, that’s really lucky! Usually rings from this period have foil backed diamonds – I have one, and I have to be SUPER careful not to get it wet (there is a reason it’s not my engagement ring). What a gorgeous piece of history!
