I intially went into my venue search with the idea that we would go for something really cheap (like a VFW hall or equivalent) & then have to spend money to doll it up (something like below)

It ended up working the exact opposite way for me. I found a venue that was a bit pricey, but it was such a beautiful space that it didn’t take a whole lot to decorate it, as the space is very minimalistic in it’s appeal.

We used the Old Town Marquee in Old Town Lansing, MI.

We were able to bring in ourside catering, and we stocked & staffed our own open bar. Because we were able to bring in these elements, we were able to host a fully stocked open bar & buffet for $16 a person. All of the other venues we looked at that required on site catering/bar usually charged about $40-$70 per plate, & $10-$15 per person for a fully stocked open bar.

Our venue cost us $1,300 for our 30 minute ceremony & 5 hour reception. Plus we were able to set up the day before, as well as unlimited use of the bridal suite on the wedding day.The pics below are the venue on our wedding day

We spent less than $500 on ALL decor (including centerpieces)

Our total wedding for 100 was $6k.

We are getting married in a rose garden/courtyard of a historic chapel. Its $850 and they provided the chairs, arch, tables, etc. as well as set them up.

We’re bringing in thing for the guest book table, hooks for chandeliers, bling for the arch. If it rains we have a plan B inside the chapel. None of these are from our wedding, ours is in June, but they still look lovely.

@librarygirl85:  Simple and beautiful. I love the ivy or whatever vine that is growing on the outside of the building. That will make such a great backdrop for photos!

@Chula_784: It’s a historic mansion in CA wine country. We really wanted outdoor space, so city venues weren’t going to work for us.

@sjhanddab2014:  This is Guthrie Scottish Rite. It’s $1500 to have a ceremony and reception there, so not actually *cheap*, BUT you can have the entire day before to decorate, and you can provide your own food and alcohol. Plus that’s our ceremony and reception site, and we don’t have to do any crazy cocktail hour changeovers, aside from moving the chairs to another room.

@MsLiveOak:  I was looking for a restaurant with a patio and the image popped up in my google search. The minute I saw it, I knew it was the one.

Min guests is 30. I’m not sure how many it holds as we are having a small group of 55

@EffieTrinket:  You’re right, that’s not “cheap”, but not bad at all compared to a lot of very plain hotel conference rooms, etc, and it’s a lot nicer!

@sjhanddab2014:  It’s Schaar’s Bluff Gathering Center in Hastings, Minnesota. So happy we found it – venues were surprisingly expensive around here, lol.
