ooo… so i would like to go out on a limb here and suggest you do NOT do the fountain.  I didn’t even know they still used those!  that screams 1990 and i picture a bride with her hair teased up bigger than her cupcake of a dress sitting behind it, you know what I mean?  You should look for something more modern.  however I agree with the smaller sized table, that’s what we did.  It always looks bad and somehow cheap when you see a cake sitting on a large table with a bunch of empty space around it, usually with a few rose petals thrown around it in a half-assed attempt to fill the space.

here’s our table:

i dont think its bad or cheap to have a cake on a larger table if thats what the couple prefer.. people have different prefences.. the tiny table for the cake seems cramped to me and there seems barely enough space for the knife

Oh, here’s the picture of our table.  I liked having a larger table.  We would have had to rent an additonal table since this is the only size table the restaurant had.  So it may just depend on what you have access to.

We had a half moon shaped table.  Our whole style was pretty simple, so we didn’t do a lot to decorate the table.  Plus it was set up on a little platform, so most guests couldn’t see it from their tables anyhow.

@cllyons: lol good, glad you’re ditching the fountain 🙂  i think my table was 36″ like you said you were planning to use, should be perfect!  the penguins sound really cute too, i think my friend will do the same thing, she loves penguins!  you should post pics after the wedding.

@bells: sorry, i didn’t mean the larger table looks bad in all cases, just some that i have seen.  take ddubzz example above mine, that looks great!  I loved my small table 🙂

Champagne bubbles wedding cake

we used a smaller square table, and had rose petals that we forgot to bring as well as votives that didn’t get used either.
