I had a cupcake tower for my wedding. I had an intimate wedding with 35 guest total so a cupcake tower gave us the tiered look without having too much left over/paying for more than we needed. Here’s a picture my sister took of it:

ETA: You can get fairly created with them and most bakers can decorate the tower/cupcakes to fit your theme.

We painted the whole thing and then put ribbon along the rounds edges and a different ribbon along all the uprights.

lol, well it was sorta DIY. The actual structure was purchased from the cupcake tree website.

We got spray paint from Home Depot and sprayed each piece with two coats.

To get the ribbon to stay we used a double sided craft tape that my mom got from Michaels–the thinest they had. It actually took two people to attach the ribbon, one to make sure it lined up and smooth it on and one to turn the tree so that the tension stayed in the ribbon and it didn’t wrinkle.

I was really happy with how it turned out, but I think the gorgeous cupcakes my SIL made are what really make the whole thing stand out.

I did a DIY cupcake tower that had a natural feel.  It was made from the “slices” of wood that I think are supposed to be burnt wooden plaques from the craft store.  We staggered them so you would have better access to the cupcake you wanted.  We also put a chalk board next to the tower to explain the different flavor options.  We did 3 different sizes and a small one on top to hold the diy bird nest cake topper.

Let me know what you think …

Here’s ours! It was made out of foam and sat atop a home-made table/stand. I wish I could take credit for it, but it was made by two friends that are FAR more creative and crafty than me.

I got mine at SaveonCrafts.com and just decorated it with ribbon and spray painted it.  Everyone loved it and it saves on messy cake cutting!  Our little cake on top was just enough to do the cake cutting and was DELICIOUS!

@ aprose – yes I got the wood “plaques” at Hobby Lobby.  They also had them at Michaels craft store.  I still have the stand if anyone is interested in purchasing.

Here was ours…Darling Husband built it out of MDF. Looking back, I would’ve made the tiers a bit shorter.
