Our DIY save the dates went out last month, and I want to go the DIY route with our invitations also. The save the dates were pretty simple but they took wayyy longer than they should have, so I figured I’d better get started early! Originally, after helping a friend with her invitations I said I would NEVER go through all the hassle she went through for something people will just throw away…that went out the window pretty quickly ๐
I already have the envelopes ordered- I ordered from PaperPresentation.com and they have super high quality envelopes and amazingly fast shipping! Of course I am on the kraft paper bandwagon for our semi-casual-vintage-modern-mexican (yes, I know it’s a lot to encompass in a theme) wedding. I will have to post pictures of my progress, but I need inspiration!
Let’s see what all you crafty bees are up to! I’d love to see pictures of your finished or in-progress invitations!

Any excuse to post my invites! Whole thing designed by me except the logo on the wax seal. These are so labors of love. I understand how you felt about your STDs cause my STDs, invites & thank yous were all handmade pains in the arse. But I wouldn’t change a thing!

@baletrina: Love it! Did you use like a cricut or silhouette die-cut machine for your lace wrap thing or did you purchase them pre-made? I was gonna try to incorporate the mexican aspect of our wedding and do something similar but with a “papel picado” pattern.

@reynaweddingbee: We used a Cricut. My advice on that is do as much in advance as possible! I made the final decision to use that design a week before invites were scheduled to be sent out. That means 72+ hours using the Cricut! DH told me he spent more time with the Cricut by himself than he would like to in his lifetime! haha.
This picture doesn’t show it but we lined the envelopes as well. Here is the original proto-type with the smaller overlay.

I’m in the progress of making our invitations, we’ve decided that I’ll paint them – so I’m currently working on the design. Posted this first draft earlier:

I’m now working on a floral frame with a feel of art nouveau while my Fiance is putting together a light box so that I can easily reproduce the finished version. I KNOW it’s a lot of work for something people will just toss, but it’s a fun project to have together!
@baletrina: And I love the work with the cricut – think I’ll have to ask my Fiance for one for my birthday! Did you use it when you lined the envelopes as well?

@eocenia: Thank you! I inspired my BFF to buy one for her wedding. ๐ The envelope liners I cut out by hand with my paper cutter and a round punch. Very easy.

@baletrina: Hm… well, I’m Swedish and we celebrate names days – I’ve one coming up in the end of February, perhaps I should ask my Fiance to get me one for that! ๐

The save-the-date from the same free invitation suite
My invites are from the free templates @ weddingchicks.com. I printed them on stardream paper and used stardream pocketfolds from cards & pockets
