I know this is kind of a late post, but I thought I would share what I do with my nails. lol I can’t grow mine either because they chip and break, acrylics cost too much to maintain so I decided to sick with glue on nails.

I buy the big box of assorted clear/opaque nails, usually slighty square, I glue them on according to what size I need, file them down to the length I want, round them out so they are more oval, then file the base where my cuticle is and shape the whole nail using one of those salon electric motorized file things. Then I paint them, and voila! pretty nails. 🙂 They stay on for me for about two weeks, I have never had problems with them falling off or damaging my nails. Between the two weeks I paint them probably around 2-3 times, using NON-acetone nail polish to take the polish off and re-paint. When I want to take them off I soak them in acetone for a short amount of time and they come right off. Then I put a new set on and have them for another couple of weeks.

They’re really inexpensive and work great for me, no trouble doing anything with them on. Here is a picture of mine now (sorry for crappy webcam quality lol) Just getting ready to change them, but here is what mine look like now.

I plan on either doing these for my wedding and matching them to my toes, or going with doig my own gel set, which I’ve done before. These are a lot easier to do though, just have to choose a color! haha

I’ve been an avid nail biter since childhood..and got the gel (Shellac) for the wedding. I’m 1 week in and no chipping, no biting! I’m lovin it!! I opted for the light pink color so the nail growth isn’t as obvious

If you do the white tips it will show through if you don’t use a very dark color. Also, with shorter nails if you do the white tips the white will go more than halfway down your nail (I call that look porn star nails). I’m a horrible nail biter, I’ve started doing a little better since getting engaged and plan on starting to get either Shellac or Axxium a month or two before my wedding because it will help keep me from biting my nails. However, if you want to add length there are a few suggestions I have. If you want a french go to someplace that does the pink and white powder and make sure you do it far enough in advance that it grows out a little (as suggested in earlier posts) however if you do this it will show through if you try to paint over it with a light color.

@heyitssamyra

I did the same thing for my proms (I’m 18). I bought the 5$ glue-on nails from walmart and just filed them down to size. I can barely feed myself in nails that go past my finger, so at the end of the night I just popped them off. No damage and no fuss.

I’m nearly a year late to this party, but I wanted to comment and advocate for the gels. I don’t get the gel polish, I get the gel nails, however when I first got them on I only had to use one tip because my nail was too short. I love the gels. They stay shiny for the whole two-three weeks that I go between fills. Also, when I want to take them off they haven’t damaged my nails like acrylics do.

I used to get acrylics but then when I started going to a new nail place they suggested the gels. They’re a little more expensive, but I think they’re totally worth it! I agree with a previous poster that the white tip going half way down your nail looks CLEARLY fake and porn star-ish. If your nail person does the gels and then just airbrushes the tips you can get the tips so they’re not super thick. My boss gets acrylics and has the white tips that go half way down her nail and they look hideous!!

The place I used to go and get the acrylics always asked if I wanted the white tip (the actual plastic tip they put on before the acrylic powder stuff is white not the offwhite/clear that it usually is) and I always said no because they would look stupid.

I also get my nails filed down nice and short when I get them done. I sit at a computer and type all day so when my nails get too long I can’t type that well. And I always get tons of compliments on my nails.
