I thought so too until I did research plusbthe igi cert matches the number on the girdle and the replacement report. I guess diamond testers go based on heat andnifnthis lab grown diamond was grown a certain way it may not have the same heat as a regular diamond. I’m not explaining it correctly. I took it to a gemologist and he said it was in fact a diamond. I wonder how else I can check?sydneybee4 :

lovetwoloveme : i haven’t really looked into what the test looks for etc so I guess that makes sense. If the gemologist says it’s a diamond and you have the certification then I’m not sure there’s any other way you can check? I have seen on here though another bee that took hers to a couple of different jewellers and it tested as a diamond. So I’m curious to know if they are all coming up as moissanite now? I thought it was supposed to be identical but just created in a lab rather than naturally in which case it should always look, feel, test etc as diamond because it is!

sydneybee4 :  Lab diamonds do tend to have different kinds of inclusions because of the different environment they are grown in.

Also, this is in an interesting article which may be relevant. Most lab diamonds are Type IIa. Basically, the article states that because of the process used to create lab diamonds, they are excellent electrical conductors and can falsely test positive as a moissanite.

lovetwoloveme :  Looks great. In summary, if a trained gemologist says it’s a diamond and you have an IGI cert, it’s a diamond. Diamonds, whether lab created or mined, behave differently than moissanites (refractiveness). To someone who is used to looking at diamonds and moissanites, it’s pretty easy to differentiate.
