@smrlovingrl:  IKEA offers the BORRBY Lantern in 2 sizes. The tall ones are 17.25″ tall and the short ones are 11″ tall. The ones on our tables were the taller lanterns and they were a bit too tall; if they were elevated at all, they would completely block the view.

If you have (or are planning to get) the 11″ ones, you could totally elevate them a couple of inches without compromising sightlines. And creating a flowery base around them would add texture and interest and give them more bulk. It sounds lovely!

Here’s a picture that shows the 2 sizes together; the large lantern is quite big.

Here are a couple centerpieces that use the smaller of the two BORRBY lanterns:

A few other inspiration pics:

If I had to do it again, I’d go for smaller/shorter lanterns. The bigger ones were more expensive, but not conversation-friendly. Nothing taller than 12-14″. Whatever you decide to do, good luck and please post pics!! I adore lantern centerpieces!

I am also using the Borby IKEA lanterns as centerpieces.  I have both the 17″ and the 11″? inch ones and was planning on using the 17″ on tables.  I need advice though on all lanterns or half lanterns half floral centerpieces.  I am painting all the lanterns white and the room is white with white linens.  There will be an orange placemat underneath the  lantern and also a small grouping of flowers at the base of the lantern (dahilas and garden roses) and paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling to add color to the room.  I have a mock up picture that my Mother-In-Law and I did together.  What do you all think all lanterns or half and half???

Long aisle leading up to the seating area had lots of little lanterns:

Which turned into big 11″ lanterns on the main aisle, half with flowers:

Which were reused on half the reception tables as centerpieces:

I also did the IKEA lanterns (in white). You can’t beat that price. I alternated lanterns cenerpieces with vase centerpieces (14 total tables so 7 tables each). I also bought smaller white lanterns from Michaels to use on the tables with the vases. I took red rose petals and other greenery and put them around the lanterns. I had an outdoor garden wedding and wanted lots of dragonfly decor. I found some really pretty dragonfly magnets that I attached to the lanterns. I also used names of trees for the table names instead of table numbers (and then the guest favors were tree seedlings). Here ae my pics:

Thank you all for all your great ideas!  I am up at my venue now ( ahhh so relaxing just looking out over the marina)  We are doing a vintage beach theme lots of starfish and travel details.  I think I am going to do half and half the room is REALLY white and I think the flowers will help to soften and add color to the room, pictures of the mock up in the room to come!  Oh and that lantern we did not paint but we did paint all the 11″ ones for my Future Sis in Law’s wedding in September which will be on shepherd hooks down the asile.
