I’m in the beginning stages of planning my wedding for the summer of 2015 and I’m struggling to find BM dresses that I like!
It’s a very formal wedding and I think that long dresses would be most appropriate. The problems that I’m encountering are that most of the longer dresses look like prom dresses. Some of the chiffon ones are pretty, but they look so beachy!
If it helps, the venue is on the top floor of a Gregorian style building with floor to ceiling windows that look out over the city. It was recently renovated and looks very classically pretty but also has a more modern and downtown loft feel. I want my girls to look elegant and formal!
Did any of you host very formal weddings and would you care to share the dresses that you or your BMs selected?!

My wedding is EXTREMELY formal and I found my bridesmaid dresses at David’s Bridal! My girls will be wearing this dress in champagne (it’s not nearly as odd looking in person in champagne as on the website, the color is more of a soft gold the way champagne should look): http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Strapless-Satin-Pleated-Bodice-Ball-Gown-F15554_Bridal-Party-Bridesmaids-Long-Bridesmaid-Dresses

@MrsTywinLannister: I am cracking up right now — this is literally the only tab that I have open on my computer for bridesmaid dresses. You have your girls wearing the ONLY dress within a reasonable price range that I have found and that I like. You have great taste! I’m glad to know the champagne looks better in person…it’s one of the colors I was considering, also!
Back to sqaure one. 🙂

check out the euro satin bill levkoff collection, im going with the long sweetheart dresses in Horizon Blue , everything else will be silver and ivory, all pale colors and neautral simple and elegant. www.billlevkoff.com I had such a hard time picking a color because i was afraid to look sweet 16′ ish or prom’ish. I think black would have looked very elegant and formal, but i just cant do it to myself, feels like a funeral color to me. I think the champagne and gold colors are beautiful and perfect for formals!! but my wedding in in october and its too pale of a color for me it doesnt contrast against the trees etc.
good luck planning is a bt stressful, ive only been doing this for a year so far lol i still have another 9 months to go

@crackktheskyy: We had dress by Bill Levkoff in Champagne and Blush. They had beautiful small trains in the back, I loved them.

Our wedding is next weekend and it’s very formal, in a country club ballroom. My girls are wearing these and I promise they don’t look beachy at all – especially in a dark color. The back is gorgeous and almost has a train effect:

@angel243: So beautiful! I love those!
@crackktheskyy: I also had a very formal wedding that took place at 6 p.m., and I wanted formal, elegant, floor-length dresses for my attendants. I am a bit obsessed with Caribbean Sea blue, and I drove myself crazy looking for THE color in THE fabric. It’s hard to see just how much dimenstion and shimmer are in this two-faced, iridescent silk taffeta, but I absolutely loved them.

Mine came from DB as well:
They were a textured satin-like fabric so they were flowy like chiffon but satin-like formal:
I used DB because these dresses came in the size range I needed (2-20) and they were on SUPER SALE for $50 (down from $175).
Are your girls regular sizes?
I would go to Nordstroms or Macy’s and check out their gowns. I think your loft venue would do well with a sophisticated floor length gown and you’d probably find some sweet deals now that the holidays have passed.

Mine are Jordan Couture Collection 1402 in aubergine, which is a beautiful deep plum color. This dress looked awesome on all my bridesmaids and they all LOVED it! I call it the miracle dress! 🙂

@crackktheskyy: i lovedddd my BMs dresses!!!!!! Especially the color. The material is Charmeuse and the color is called Shamrock. Designer After Six Stylr # 6625
I guess because of the lighting the dresses look a different shade in the Church

@angel243: Thank you so much for all of the links! That shade of blue is very pretty. I’m having the same dilemma — I keep finding GORGEOUS dresses, but they are all black! It seems like all of the other colors make so many of these dresses look so much less formal. I’m thinking of including some metallics, too! Good luck with your planning, too 🙂 I also have a long engagement!
@Treejewel19: I like what you did with the different necklines! My girls are all very different shapes and sizes so it might be nice to have a little bit of versitility with the gowns.
@sparklerunner: I do love chiffon! I really need to go look in person. I agree about the darker colors but I’ve been working from a blush/champagne/rose gold type of a color palette. I am nervous to put the BMs in anything dark, in case it clashes, but I should really think about it. I always think darker looks nicer for formal.
@Brielle: Thanks for sharing your photos! I like the way the tops of the dresses crisscross at the top!
@KimmySumShuga: That’s a great deal! And I totally love the dress! The fabric looks amazing. My girls are all very different sizes. I saw some of the Nordstrom ones online but I was sort of underwhelmed. Macy’s is a good idea, though!
@JoJo0127: Very pretty! Miracle dress? Does it make you look skinnier? Do they make it in white for me?! hahaha 🙂
@Lbward6: The Lazaro line is gorgeous. One of my only qualms with it is the limited color palette. Maybe I just need to suck it up and do black dresses! They are always my favorite.
@MarieeToBee: I love little details like the flower! Very pretty and sets it a part. It’s even prettier in real life!
@Daizy914: Ohhh I forgot about charmeuse! Thanks!
