I bought a dress 6 weeks after getting engaged and felt very quickly that it wasn’t my style anymore, and was lucky enough to get a second chance and buy a second dress.
My second dress is totally different from my first and I’d love to see if other brides had similar dress experiences and how much their tastes changed after making a mistake the first (or 2nd, 3rd, 4th!) time.
Here’s my first dress, which I won’t be wearing:
And here is the dress I will wear on my wedding day. It took 7 months to choose and feels much more me! (Sorry the photo isn’t of me)

I love your first dress but I love your second dress even more.

Rachaelemma: love your first dress but that second one is STUNNING. I have dress envy.

love them both! I didn’t buy the first dress (luckily) but was set on it for 2 months and was going to order it once I tried on a dress in the other color options.
This was the dress:
When I tried on more dresses, I realized there was something about the front of the skirt that I wasn’t in love with. It seemed to fall flat where other dresses had some extra oompf/play in the skirt…
It was still my favorite in every other aspect, but I wanted to try the light gold color… I was visiting my mom and there was a bridal salon in her town that carried Mori Lee and had a mori lee in light gold, so we went specifically to try on the other color and order that dress in whichever color I liked better (they didn’t have the exact dress in light gold but still)..
When we got there I fell in love with the light gold color, and tried on a Maggie Sottero Light gold dress, and it had everything I wanted in the skirt.. so I bought it (discontinued) and will have it altered to add beading on the bust like dress #1 🙂

Rachaelemma: Your first dress is stunning but not very bridal. To many people, that wouldn’t matter. But I do love your 2nd one, the lace pattern is very very pretty.

brinny04: Your second dress has an edge becuase it fits you better than the first one, an dI LOVE LOVE LOVE the way the lace at the bottom edges a tulle (of is that chiffon?) bottom. That effect is stunning, and the heavy lace is fabulous, too.
But that first dress is pretty amazing.

I did almost the exact same thing, and felt terrible about it! As a disclaimer (and apology) neither photo below is me.
First dress was Hayley Paige’s Paloma, but without the sparkly bolero:
And then I realized it didn’t fit the rest of the wedding I had planned!
So, this weekend (nearly 2 months after selecting the first dress), I’ll be switching to Monique Lhuillier’s Candy in ivory:
Of course, it’s not official until it is official, but I think I’ve thought about it enough to be certain by now. Fingers crossed! 🙂

First dress was Sophia Tolli Fabian. Its the one shown below. Bought it right after having a baby, mostly bc my mom liked it. Second dress was a simple gown by Stella York. Shown above. Both these dresses where from sample sales. I really just felt overwhelemened and not that pretty.
Third dress is MY dress. ALthough I definatly question it as well, I purchased it used from preowned. I loved it online and think I will love it even more once I either lose weight or have it altered to fit better!
THIS IS MY CURRENT DRESS-OLIVIA IN OATMEAL
FIrst Dress regret-Sophia Tolli Fabian. I liked the picture but the dress made me look old and no one I showed it too really liked it but my mom.

FauxPas2012: Thanks, the second dress (my actual dress) is actually huge, I’m having the corset back changed to a button down back and hopefully that fixes most of the size issue. I just hope the alterations go smoothly, I’m more than a little nervous about them. The lace ends assymmetrically and then it’s tulle underneath 🙂
The first dress was just a different silhouette completely, and in the end, I think I really do prefer the fuller look. I’m a tad disappointed my actual dress won’t have the gorgeous beaded back, but my fiance didn’t really like that look anyway on the pictures I showed him (of other dresses) so… I guess it’s okay. 😛 “My” dress just made me feel amazing, so it won.

AngelineRose: MsGinkgo: Thank you so much! I realised quite early on that the sparkly one didn’t make me feel comfortable and I feel so much better in the second dress!
brinny04: I love your second dress, it’s obvious that you’re more comfortable and the style and colour is gorgeous!!
msfreemis: oh no, 2 mistake dresses! I’m so glad you found The One in the end, and you look beautiful in it. I love that it’s a lot simpler than the other two!
FauxPas2012: Thank you! I felt like it was maybe more of a 50s style and I didn’t feel particularly bridal, even though it’s a lovely big dress! And I’m glad you like it as well, because I’d feel really sad if everyone thought it was horrible because initially I loved it so much! I’m glad everyone prefers my second dress though 🙂
cateacherbee: It’s so sad when you realise your dress isn’t right anymore. I had so much heartache over mine. I absolutely adore the dress you’ve chosen though. The good thing about making the first mistake is that you’re more cautious when it comes to the next decision, and that dress is gorgeous! I’m sure being in a dress you love will make the anxiety over the first one go away on the way… I will just give my first dress a little hug on the morning of the wedding to apologise.
Mrs.Z.: I can see what you mean about the first dress, it’s such a shame and I think when you love someone you want to like what they like to make you happy. I have so much regret over my first dress because we all cried, my mum cried and was so happy, and I put her through that for nothing! She has only seen my actual dress in pictures though so hopefully she’ll cry again when the times comes 😉 You have to go with what you want to wear though. And your Olivia is gorgeous, it’s such a unique dress, I’m sure you’ll be able to pull it off! All it takes is confidence, and it looks like it fits you already, you only need a couple of changes and it’ll be perfect.

Rachaelemma: So much heartache is right! But you’re right that I feel much more confident this time around, and haven’t had nagging questions in the back of mind about the new dress. So excited to get married in it! 🙂
Your comment about the other dress is adorable! Hugs all around.

BeeinBoston: you look great in your first dress but your second one is something else! It really shows off your figure, you look amazing in it!
