My SO and I are going to look at rings soon, and I’m trying to figure out what I like. I’ve decided I want a non-diamond engagement ring (at least for the main stone), and I’d love to see some of your pictures! Right now I’m thinking I’d like a sapphire ring, so I’d love to see some examples of sapphire rings, but I’d honestly really like to see any of the non-traditional/non-diamond rings you ladies have!

There are tons of threads on this. You should do a google search on weddingbee to see. I’m sure tons of seen my ring by now, but this is mine.
My e-ring is a yellow sapphire with a double halo of yellow sapphires and diamonds. All together, it probably is about 2.5 carats.

Mine is an emerald with channel set diamonds!

Mine is an emerald… not sure the carat weight, but quite small. It’s from Petra Class (http://petraclass.net/), who was having her trunk show at the jewelry store the day we were there. Apologies for the lousy cell phone picture… I don’t even own a real camera.
I have a friend with a sapphire ring. It’s GORGEOUS.

Sorry for the HUGE picture.

I don’t have a picture of mine at work. This picture looks almost exactly like my ring, except in the center is a pearl, not diamond. I love the platinum setting and gold band. Also, this ring and my ring are from Doyle and Doyle in NYC, which specializes in vintage jewelry.

@YSQueen: I hadn’t considered a yellow sapphire before, but your ring is GORGEOUS!
@Dragonsus: I used to be really interested in an emerald, but I read they are softer/more easily damaged – has this been a concern for you, or seem to be an issue at all?
@karatechick27: I love the rich blue of your center stone! That’s what I’m leaning towards right now.
@Miss Peach Tree: I think there’s something so classic and sophisticated about a pearl ring. That one looks like it would be lovely with a pearl center 🙂

@Miss Peach Tree: I LOVE the look of pearl rings. I thought about asking for one for a while, but I realized that as hard as I am on my jewelry, I would probably destroy it within a month. Your ring looks gorgeous, though! I’m jealous!

@SadieBee- I have a ring with a bezel-set emerald (not my e-ring tho) and they are definitely more prone to wear and tear. I thought the bezel setting would protect it (it’s my Fiance birthstone which is why I got it), but it’s still chipped and scratched after maybe 3 years of daily wear. No offense to those that have them (they’re definitely one of my favorite stones!), but I wouldn’t recommend it, especially if you’re at all hard on your rings. Just my two cents… =)
