CaptainTaco:  WOW! That’ll be some heirloom! It’s stunning, from the rose gold to the octagon shape to the milgrain… utterly gorgeous. TBH it’s not my personal style, but it’s certainly a work of art!

Everyone’s seen my ring, as far as I know it’s OOAK for all intents and purposes, as it is preowned/vintage, and a flower style that I at least have never seen the likes of.

Here is my ring.

Your Ring Stats: size 3. I think its’ .64 carats?  So not huge. White gold, iolite.  Because of the white gold, my set was more than I think either of us wanted to spend, but we told white gold lasted longer than sterling silver.

The Inspiration: I love the color purple and did not want a diamond, so I knew a gemstone was for me, I had never heard of iolite until after my ering was made.  I also didn’t want a super intricate ring because that just wasn’t for me, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love admiring others rings.

The Artist/Company: Gemvara made my ring, and they were great with my questions and concerns.  The only thing is, they are based in either New York or Massachusetts which is far from me, so I would always have to mail in my ring if I ever have problems.

Timing:  We ordered my ring early April, it arrived mid-april, husband proposed on Easter.  So for me, it was only a 5 day wait, but I swear those five days were the longest of my life.

Reception: Several people have commented on my ring in person believing it to be sapphire at first and stating how beautiful it looks.  I don’t think I’ve gotten one bad comment on it at all.  Most people are used to seeing diamonds around here, when they see a  gemstone they’re surprised by it.

Size 8, Citrine, Circa ~1910, White gold with very ornate filligree on the prongs, around the stone, and about 1/2 way around the band, Cost ~$600 + $100 resizing

We picked it out together from a local antique shop after looking at probably 50 other rings. I love the size and the subtle gold yellow of the citrine (most citrine jewelry is too bright for my taste). I also love the filigree — I saw a lot of rings with great filigree, but they had flower designs that just weren’t me. This one is just abstract designs — way more my speed. The picture I have really doesn’t do the filigree justice.

Lovewinz:  Where is the non-stone band from? It looks similar to rings sold by the place that is making future Mr. Ceemonkee’s engagement & wedding ring.

vespria:  I love your Alexandrite!  It’s my birthstone and I have always thought it to be so beautiful and unique.  I would call my ring unique.  I haven’t seen another like it.  My ring story is kind of a long one.  My first e-ring from my now husband was a cluster made of 10 karat rose gold.  The diamonds were of very poor quality.  But, because we got the ring for a very low price(BIL worked at the store and got us a great deal), there was nothing we could do about it at the store.  I still have that ring and am thinking of one day upgrading the diamonds.

We decided to upgrade and go custom.  I had a .54 carat princess diamond from a previous setting.  We decided to use that in my upgrade.  We used Barbara Oliver Jewlers in the Buffalo area.  I showed her some pictures.  I still loved the appearance of a cluster.  I stressed that I wanted heavier rose gold, higher quality diamonds, and I wanted the princess to fit into a rounded halo. I also wanted a vintage appearance to the ring. The ring took about a month.  Below is the first ring we were given.  I was not happy with it.  Her out-of-house jewler set the princess kite.  It was not what I wanted.

We re-worked some things.  She called me a few days later and told me that in order to fit the princess into the large, rounded halo I had asked for, a double halo would be in order.  At no extra cost to me, she recreated the ring and added another halo of diamonds.  The second ring turned out much better.  It still has the cluster appearance that I like.  Most people call it “different” or “blingy” in my area.  It doesn’t look like the typical engagement ring that people have in my neck of the woods.

The ring is 14 KT rose gold.  “G” colored diamonds with good 4c’s.  Size 7.5.  1.34tcw.  The ring was in the 2K range.  I told Darling Husband that I didn’t want to know the actual price!  Here is the finished product.  Pic from the jewler then on my hand.

vespria:  I love the color of the stone AND the fact that it’s not totally symmetrical, but still very balanced. Nice job!

MrsSnowMountain:  ya, it’s definetly heirloom material, that’s the other thing I kept in mind while looking for rings. I LOVE flower rings, they’re so feminine and classy. And yours is so pretty!!
