I don’t think it would be rude at allo to go to a bridal salon with your gown and try on petticoats. Your intention would be to purchase one, so they should be happy to help you. I would, however, call and make an appointment, so you can try on as many different styles as possible. I am not sure what you mean by putting boning in your petticoat; maybe I am reading wrong? I am wearing a ballgown with a huge petticoat/crinoline. It is a Merry Modes 4500.

@LadySapphire: Not sure if I can help. I remembered you order a PLBG replica, right? Correct me if I am wrong. but anyway, mine is also kinda like a ball gown and also from PLBG. I went to my first fitting on Tuesday. The alteration lady told me to get a crinoline that is : tiered, hoopless, and FULL (she repeated that that times).

I asked her if I can get a crinoline with hoops. She said no. She said it is useless. So I found some from ebay, sent her the pictures. And she picked one that is very similar to the one I tried during my fitting. It costs $44 (including postage).

Hope it helps a bit ๐Ÿ™‚

Just like noritake said, I think what you are looking for is a hoop skirt rather than a crinoline

@LadySapphire: I tried that crinoline, I didn’t feel too hot. And because it doesn’t have any hoops or wires, it is very comfortable to sit down. I could move around in the store pretty well. The lady told me to do a “bridal walk”, but I was walking way too fast and then she said “hey you are not walking like a bride”

So you can imagine, it is very light so I could walk very fast! It is not heavy at all. Not too bulky. the bottom of the crinoline is thicker than the top because the purpose of it is to make the bottom looks wider and a bit shorter. If I don’t wear a crinoline, the lady said my dress will be too short.

For your information:

This is the one I used in the bridal store:

The one I bought from ebay:

If you buy one will hoops, you will have problems sitting down
