Sorry that’s the best picture I have right now. I can only upload previously uploaded pictures from my phone because of tech issues.

We did circle for the tables except for a rectangle for the head table in the middle.  We did half rounds on the end of the rectangle so it didn’t look so . . .cornery haha.

We had one table that was 8′ x 30″ like you are describing for our rehearsal dinner and I did not like it. I felt like the table was too narrow and didn’t have a big enough presence for the room that we were in.

For the wedding we did 8′ rounds

For reference, the one in my pic was two tables across, in case you couldn’t tell. I didn’t think it felt too far away.

@wifegoodman:  I think the one you don’t like is called a Kings Table.  Its almost as wide as it is long.  I loooove the look of long rectangular tables but it really should depend on your use of space.  I like long for more intimate rooms, otherwise it looks like you’re squishing everybody together.

@Natalieh86:  we did the exact same thing! We had rounds for guests and we had a rectangle headtable with 6 on each side, we were in the middle of the rounds so we felt like we were part of the party instead of feeling isolated.

We had round tables.  Our head table was a rectangle but only had people on one side.

I worry that a single rectangular table is going to be too narrow, especially once you get centerpieces, plates, water glasses, wine glasses, silverware, etc on it.  I’d worry that people will feel like they are on top of each other.

I’m actually thinking of mixing both round adn rectangular tables. If I do that, the rectangular tables will have low centerpieces and the circular will have the tall ones. I assume the tall centerpieces will be more expensive so it’s nice to have to do only 50% of the tables.
