@bunnyharriet:  Thanks yea with the design it would have looked really lopsided and we looked at other options but SO was set on that and agreed it needed the other side to complete it so!

I’ll vote when there’s more votes, but I haven’t even told my mom exactly what my ring cost and what exactly the “specs” are.

Here is my ring.  The center stone was an heirloom from my fiances grandmother. It is .98cts.  My fiance bought the setting for around $3500.  I cannot believe he spent that much for just a setting but I have had it for awhile now and got used to the fact he spent a lot.  The wedding band we purchased (I do not have a picture) cost another $2k as well.

Here’s my Engagement ring with the wedding ring enhancer, which we customized to suit the E ring.  ecause i wanted the option of wearing the wedding ring enhancer as itself, me and my fiance decided to do something different at the back of the ring. We have our initials in rose gold and diamonds so that i could be able to turn the ring around and wear it as itself, The engagement ring can be removed from the enhancer and be worn alone. Engagement Ring carat wt is 0.7 and the enhancer total carat weight is 0.64. Total cost approx USD6000.

Just got my set this week.

Description on appraisal says the following:

Engagement ring consists of an oval cut amethyst stone surrounded by round brillant cut diamonds set in 14k white gold.  The amethyst stone measures 6×4 mm.  The total diamond weight is .45 carats.

Wedding band consist of round diamonds set in 14k white gold, total diamond is .25 carats.  The diamonds are “SI” clarity and “H” in color.

(Not really sure what all that means.. but its so pretty!)

Original price was $2,000.  After switching the diamond center stone to an amethyst we paid $1620 after taxes.

Mine cost about $2.5k-3k for just the setting alone (this was more than 2 years ago). It’s sort of custom in that the place we got it from has it as one of their signature settings but each one is handset, which is significantly more than pre-fab. I don’t have a picture, but it is a micropave halo with a 3/4 eternity band (1.8 mm). The stones are all around E-G since the main stone is an F. The metal is platinum, as it was only a few hundred dollars more than doing it in white gold. A lot of the Bees are worried about diamonds coming loose in the micropave setting, but I’m not all that careful with my ring (though I do also have a desk job) and I’ve never had any issues. In fact, the jeweler guarantees it for life and will replace any stones that come loose. I think this is because it was hand-set well.

I think custom/handset is the way to go if you can afford it and it is a more intricate/delicate piece. For your design, I’m inclined to believe that there may be an existing pre-fab setting which would then be in the hundreds, versus the thousands.
