We did a cake buffet with 5 cakes, all different flavors/sizes. We asked our baker to keep the frosting simple and decorations minimal. Please excust the slightly droopy table…

This is going to be ours, only with different flowers.

Why so sad over the live ferns? I think they’d look great!

@NYCowgirl: My guess is that they want to use live material as it will be time consuming to pipe all those ferns onto the cake, i.e. it’s a cost efficiency issue. Ask her if you can have simpler leaves made out of sugar paste. Those can be made in advance and inserted into the cake before it’s served.

@NYCowgirl:  That makes sense! Though I suppose I’m kind of the opposite, my family works with flowers too (though through competitive flower arranging and wedding flowers, not a store), and I can’t imagine having not-real plants on anything :). I say stick to your guns and politely insist on what you want!

@NYCowgirl:  I like the one that has the initials “carved” into the “tree bark” Laughing  very pretty!!!

This was my cake! I am OBSESSED with it. She asked if we wanted our initials on it but Darling Husband is HUGE on trees and decided it would be hard to make it look authentic… and I agreed.

This was for our Secret Garden Wedding, so I decided a key whole and ivy would be cool.

love the look of rustic, imperfect buttercream frosting! We’re not really having a rustic wedding (no mason jars, burlap, wood grain stuff, etc) but thats the only kind of cake I could imagine. I actually don’t really care for super smooth frosting, I just want the cake to look totally homemade.
