We have to specify tables AND seats (for our caterer – so they know whos plate is going to which seat!) – I’m not sure the best way to communicate this, so I’ll be following! I was thinking of doing a large board with everyones name and table, and then having their place card at the table? Just seems like so much extra work to set them all out haha.

I LOVE the distressed window/door look.

MrsEllis2017 :  I got mine at Home Goods a few months ago.. I bet any similar store like TJ Maxx, Marshalls etc would have something close too!

scissorgirl :  I don’t have a picture of them (yet), but we did escort cards with each guest’s meal choice stamped on the card. The caterer just requested amounts at each table and then based on the escort cards figured out who got what. Not sure if that makes sense, but the caterer got a list like this: Table 1- 5 beef, 2 fish, 1 veg; Table 2- 7 beef, 1 child, etc. And then each escort card had the icon of what they were getting (cow, fish, carrot)

lahela017 :  That’s actually a good idea. This way they search for their name on a card and then go directly to the table. Less hassle I would think!

2 frames from TJ Maxx Home Goods and graphic designer friend who helped with invites/table numbers used same motif for the assignments on 4×6 cards. Brackets on the bottom screwed to help with keeping them stable. We now have them on our guest bedroom wall (brackets removed) with 4×6 photos from the wedding.

Total cost maybe $60 including printing.

So there’s 2 common ways I’ve seen recently of how people find their seat:

– Escort cards: Small card usually half folded with each persons name (sometimes 1 couple on each card) set out on a table. They are in alphabetical order by last name then indicate the table number. If you have a plated meal with either say chicken or beef there may be a photo of what their entree choice so when they place the card where they sit, the staff knows what to serve them.

– Seating charts: These are what are more popular these days. The table numbers are listed then people sitting at that table are listed below. Works well with buffet style meal.

Each has pros and cons.

scissorgirl :  A friend of mine recently got married – they had a chart with the tables listed and who was at the table, but they also had escort cards in their two wedding colors for guests to take to the table. At first I thought it was random, but they were color coded: blush meant chicken, navy meant beef. That’s how the caterers knew what to serve without them having to dictate the exact seat everyone sat in. Would something like that work for you?

mrsblanco827 :   brereuther :  Thank you both!

I don’t think coloured escort cards would work because we have a 3 course meal that guests need to choose – so each course would be different. Stamped cards or some other identifying mark for each course might though.

I’m fine with doing the seat and table assignments, but now I’m worried if I give this to the caterer (ie john seat 1, jane seat 2) and have that corresponding with their meal, that people will switch seats and mess up that order too haha. I also asked my caterer if this is usually a big problem, or if I’m stressing for nothing, so I’ll see what they say.

I read another thread where they put ribbons on the escort cards. So I’d need 3 ribbons, but that might work. So 1st course, soup is blue, salad is yellow. Second course, scallops are blue, tartare is yellow. Third course, steak is blue, fish is yellow. But this seems confusing! I mean, my wedding isn’t for a year, so I really don’t need to be stressing lol.

This was ours.  We had a smallist wedding (100 guests) we we just did it alphabetically.  We did not put escort cards on the tables, thinking people could sit whereever they wanted at their assigned table.
