It’s been about six-seven months since I’ve had them polished ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve had them for a year and the metal is so white and it just glimmers wildly in the sun! You can see very miniscule scratches on the bottom but even those are lustrous!

So mind you this is a iPhone photo, I’ve worn it for about 15 months and never polished. And it’s in desperate need of a cleaning!

It’s a shame I don’t have a picture of my ring before it was sized and polished for me (as my grandma had worn it for 63 years). It still looked beautiful.

@lumos: Thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚ To be honest, I haven’t seen a difference besides on the bottom where my palm is. There are tiny scratches, but they actually disappear over time because of the way the metal is rubbed–it hides the scratches because it disperses itself.

The metal is super shiny in the sunlight and indoor lighting. It looks dull in certain lighting, but that’s natural for any metal really…

@lumos: Its near impossible to capture the difference with the camera I have, but there is a difference for sure.  I just recently got my rings polished and I was shocked at how shiny and new they looked again.   But just wearing them daily, I dont really notice a difference since it scratches again so slowly and subtly and isnt an immediate drastic change like the polishing was.  It doesnt look bad once its dulled, just not a shiny mirror like finish anymore.

Do you notice the weight of the ring as platinum is quite heavy?

@lilsweetie: It is a noticeable difference to me, yes. I had white gold (18k) before my platinum setting.

I’ve never had them polished yet so there’s def a difference from when I just got them. My friend has white gold rings and honestly besides the patina of my platinum it’s not that different scratch wise. You can def notice a weight difference between our rings (they are similar minus the metal) but it’s not as extreme as some claim. It’s not like ohmygod platinum is SO much heavier I can’t wear this every day. I honestly don’t even notice it and I’m NOT a jewelry wearing person.

Where did you ladies get your rings polished? What do they do when they polish them? Do they have to keep them?

@lumos: Regarding your question, I just pop in the jewelers and I’m out the door with my cleaned rings in about 5-10 minutes. Polishing usually takes an extra 5 minutes. The only time I ever had to “leave” my rings there for two-three days (very devastating–I didn’t like one second of waiting, LOL)  was when I had to get them re-sized.

Since we purchased my rings from Robbins Brothers, we bought the care package that includes a lifetime cleaning, polishing, re-sizing, engraving, lost diamond replacement, etc. So, in turn, I go to Ring Bearer to have all this done when needed.

@lumos: Yes, it is so convenient and wonderful. The packages depend on the price of your ring. Our package/insurance was $200. I think it’s a sweet deal! ๐Ÿ™‚ There is even a package that includes a complete replacement of the entire ring/s if they are lost/stolen (some people have taken advatage of this, of course, but it’s nice if you really do lose it). I am pretty sure you can walk in and ask them to buy their insurance/care package even if you didn’t buy your rings there, I thought I saw someone do that one day.

P.S. Yes, ask your jeweler! It is worth every penny if they do offer it! ๐Ÿ™‚
