starfish317:  I did a cupcake cake. For 2 tiers of cake and 200 cupcakes – it was $200. In Chicago.

The cakes were chocolate and vanilla with raseberry villing and the cupcakes were vanilla cake with raseberry filling or chocolate cake with a chocolcate mousse filling. They were a huge hit.

We are doing cupcakes and this is the inspiration picture we sent to our baker:

The cutting cake is $55 and then each cupcake is 3.75 a piece.

Katspe724:  Wow you got an amazing deal on your cake! Each cupcake was less than a dollar a piece? Ours is going to cost us just around $750 for a 6 in cake and 170 cupcakes plus $100 in delivery and set-up fees.

hikingbride:  It was .75 per cupcake and the top 2 cakes were 25 each. The taxes were included in those prices. We had to pick them up but my venue set up the cupcakes on the stand before we go there.

My wedding hasn’t occurred yet. We are paying $225 for a 6″ and 4″ inch cake for cutting and 100 cupcakes.

We did 3 tier, 3 flavor cake along with two 1/2 sheets to make sure we had enough (150 guests) total was about $400. So so yummy and we had TOO much (not a horrible problem to have! )

The piping of the icing was supposed to be something else, the bakery messed up. But it wasn’t important, the homemade kitty cats and the little papel picado was the important thing. This cake fed about 40 people cost… hmmm I remember the total price was about $300 but we also had a big sheet cake in the back that fed 150 people. Show cake = more expensive, for pix and cake cutting ceremony + Sheet Cake in the back same flavors/colors, fed a lot of people was about $120 = $300 total and not even half the total amount of cake was eaten

hikingbride:  Love!!

This is our cake inspiration. Our bottom layer will be pink.

We are also having cupcakes, pie, ice cream bar, canollis, cream puffs and donuts…. I have a sweet tooth… Can you tell?

Everything except the donuts is included in our all inclusive price. So I can’t really tell you how much.

Our wedding cake. The simple dimple-dot design with wrapped ribbon and flowers on top was my idea, and the flavors were DH’s contribution: Almond cake, creme brulee filling, and marzipan icing. It cost $300, but that was mostly due to the icing (marzipan is not cheap or easy to work with).

This is the trial run I did of our cake. We were quoted $2-$5 per slice for a pro cake, and as we are having 250+ guests, that was a no go. Since I’ll be making the cake, the total cost will be that of ingredients, so I’m estimating maybe $200-$300 max ($30 of fondant, $10 of gold leaf, $30 of cake forms, $20 of sprinkles and flowers, $10 of cake boards for sheet cakes, and maybe $100-$200 for flour, sugar, eggs, strawberries, etc.). It could be less than this, but I wanted to give a buffer. Still better than a $1250 cake!
