Here’s mine!! we are working on fixing the corset, but it was my first time having it tied, etc so ignore that part… eta this is a french

American bustles are overbustles, where the fixtures (hooks, loops, buttons, etc.) are on top of the dress. French bustles are underbustles- the ribbons are hidden under the skirt.

French bustles are easier to sew because they’re hidden, but American bustles can be GORGEOUS. My favorite, though, is when a dress has a satin underskirt and an organza overlay…then it gets a French bustle on the satin skirt and an American on the overlay!! It’s a huge pain to sew, but it’s so worth it.

Mine is a ballroom bustle – everything gets tucked under and tied up – only works well on shorter trains.  Bustle shown is pinned in before the tie flappy-things were removed.
